North Dock Back Where it Belongs

Rear Commodore Mike Moody reports that the North Dock has been straightened out and re-anchored thanks to new member Tony Kuhlman.

"Tony volunteered to 'dive' into a project for the club - literally," said Moody. "Using his scuba and snorkel equipment, Tony spent a good part of the day this past Sunday diving into Lake Lansing to identify and tag the anchor chains that gave way this spring on the North Dock. Because of his efforts the dock is back in place and it will be much easier for everyone to get in and out of the launch area."

Tony, is a participant in the Adult Learn to Sail Program and has been working hard to develop his sailing skills on Thursday evenings.

When you see Tony at the club please give him big "Thank you" for all his work on this project.

Twenty Lasers at the Line

Wednesday, July 13th saw twenty Lasers racing, a new high for LSC Wednesday racing.

Doug Carlson led the way with three wins and a second in the four races. Mike Moody got the fourth win and was close behind in the other three races with two seconds and a third.

As a group, nine sailor shared one of the top five spots in one or more races.

Afterward, a Spags, the quizmaster stumped everyone with a most interesting race rules quiz.

As usual, Stephen Wagner recorded the event with many pictures which can be seen on the LSC flicker account. At right is a Wagner picture of boats getting ready for the start of a race. Notice the Sunfish stuck in this gruop. Click here to see more. Click the flickr logo on the right for the LSC Photostream page and pictures of many more events.

Three Sunfish also participated with Dave Vietti capturing first place in all four races.

Junior Sailing Camps Get Underway

Summer 2011 Junior Sailing Camps are underway at the Lansing Sailing Club. Shown at right are two campers putting a Sunfish away at the end of the first day of camp.

I good group of campers had terrific sailing weather for their initial outing and, according to Instructor Mary Vorel, "were already showing they could sail upwind" - one of the harder skills to acquire. Looks like this group is off to a great start.

Thanks to event organizer Brad Kleihege and the many Lansing Sailing Club volunteers, the Lansing Sailing Club provided over 200 sail boat rides for the annual Tourist in Your Own Town event this last Saturday, June 4th.

A good steady breeze and sunshine made for a great day and the people who took advantage of the event left the club pretty pleased.
