May 9, 2015. Despite a dismal forecast for rain and thunderstorms, seven visiting boats joined four LSC boats for a fleet of eleven. The rain events went west of the lake, allowing us to race six full races including a throw-out. Otherwise, this was a typical Lake Lansing wind report with light air in races 1 and 2 (6 knots out of the SW), and heavier air by race 3 (12 knots out of WSW). After lunch the heavy clouds passed to the West, giving some white caps for race 4 (15 knots from W). Races 5 and 6 calmed a bit, the white caps ended, and the fleet enjoyed 45⁰ shifts every 3-4 minutes.
Awards were given to the top five crews, with all awards given to visiting boats. The top boat with three first place finishes, “Flying Circus” was sailed by Mark Allen, Steve Varnum, and Beth Groesbeck. Second place went to Matt, Kevin, and Michael Morin who sailed a new orange hulled lightning, “Orange Julius”. Third Place went to Sarah Somes, Spencer Colpaert, and Troy Marowskie in “Aquila”. The best performance by LSC contenders was by George Siegle, Ann Siegle, and Marybeth Fletcher. They scored sixth place in “Fins”.
Michael Moody and Doug Carlson set excellent WL courses despite the shifting winds. The Fleet 387 thanks other members of LSC for their continued support of our regatta.
Many fine prizes were donated by Dusty Cellars of Okemos, Mi, and Haslett True Value Hardware.
