Wednesday Racing Season Comes to a Close

Wednesday, September 7, 2011. By Brad Kleihege. The Laser and Sunfish fleets ended their Wednesday Night race series with a bang last night. With 16 Lasers, 2 Sunfish, rain, wind, one sailor needing races to qualify and others positioned to move up in the standings, the stage was set for a competitive evening of racing.

In the Laser fleet Olav Messerschmidt had a dominating evening with 3 bullets and a second. Several sailors were able to move up in the season standings with their top finishes last night. Olav was able to overtake Mike Moody to end the season in 2nd place. Brad Kleihege earned enough points last night to move up 2 places in the standings to end the season in 4th place. George Seigle came into last night in 7thplace; several top finishes helped move him into 6th place overall. Blaine Severin was able to qualify with just enough races; he ended the season in 9th place. In total, 15 Lasers qualified this season, 24 different people raced at least one night, and a new record for number of boats on aWednesday night was set, 20 boats. Click here for Laser Fleet standings and detailed results.

In the Sunfish fleet, Alanna Harvey took 3 bullets last night and learn-to-sail student Pat Miller was right behind with 3 2ndplace finishes. Alanna’s top notch sailing last night was able to push her from 4th place to 3rd in the season standings. In total, 4 sailors qualified for the season, but 19 people raced at least one Wednesday.
