Construction of the LSC Pavillion

Pictures and captions provided by Larry Koster

In 1981 a special committee of five previous Commodores was appointed by Commodore Larry Koster to evaluate the Lansing Sailing Club's facilities and future needs. This committee included Betty Spicknall (1975), Bob Hill (1977), Dennis Dudley (1978), John Fishbeck (1979) and Ron Wilson (1980).

A plan to build a pavillion was developed and approved. Then, on May 16th, 1983, the Meridian Township Planning Commission approved changes in our Special Use Permit that permitted the construction to go forward. Completion was to be within 18 months after the issuance of a building permit.

Corner poles of the new Pavillion were "planted" on September 24th, 1983 and ther other poles were placed October 1, 1983. Floor joists were bolted together November 5th and 6th, 1983.

Construction resumed in the Summer on 1984 and the roof was in place late that Fall.
