First Wednesday of Sunfish and Laser Racing 2005

Sailors began arriving for the first Wednesday of Sunfish and Laser racing in mid-afternoon. Here, Wayne Loescher rigs his Laser - and makes sure all the parts are still there. Doug Carlson led the Laser racers with a 1-1-2 evening. He also took time to give a few tips to new racers.

Neil Harrison was all smiles after winning the first Sunfish race of 2005. He added two third place finishes to complete the evening.

Chris Strugar-Fritsch couldn't make the first race, and was late for the second - but he got credit for sailing two races on the evening and finished fifth in the last race.

Ian Clemens, a new member at LSC, seemed very comfortable in his first racing ever. Even though he is still familiarizing himself with the courses we sail, the Racing Rules of Sailing and improving his boat handling, Ian left some boats in his wake and finished 5-4-6.

Blaine Severin completed his rigging upgrade by adding the cunningham and outhaul to his Millenium Laser. He then went on the water to score finishes of 4-5-4. Conditions didn't begin to test the new equipment - but the rest of the season will provide plenty of opportunity.

Dave Vietti started slowly, bringing up the tail end of the Sunfish Fleet in the first race. He turned it on then however, and finished second, then first in the final race.

Here Emily hails "Over" as he sails across the finish line.

Eight year old Emily Baswell and her dad Brandon helped out on the Committee Boat. Emily let the boats know when they crossed the finish line by calling "Over".

Scott Watkins showed he will be a force to reckon with, putting up three third place finishes. Scott also took on the task of mentoring new sailor Ian Clemens for the evening.

Jim Fletcher won race two and placed second in the other races.

Susanna Tellschow found a lot of holes in the wind while boats just a short distance away sailed away on little gusts. Still she came from behind a couple of times and finished 3-4-4.

Mike Moody, LSC Commodore and last year's Laser Fleet Champ, put two second place finishes and a first on the score sheet before leading the sailors back to the club to put up their boats - then on to Spagnoulas for pasta and the infamous rules quiz.
