To kick off the pre-sailing season, LSC will once again be participating in the 2009 Quietwater Symposium - and we are looking for volunteers to help with our booth. Vice-Commodore Jonathan Ahlbrand has taken this project on again, and everything is well organized as usual. Some details for this year's Quietwater Symposium:
While the event name is "Quietwater" The event draws a large variety of outdoor/environmental enthusiasts with interests that include: Kayaking, Sailing, Outdoor Photography, Fly Fishing, Cycling and even Dog Sledding. There are also special presentations on a variety of topics. The core focus of the Lansing Sailing Club's participation is to build awareness of sailing in the Lansing area and hopefully attract some potential new members. We will have a double sized booth with a table, chairs, and a computer/projector showing photos from our past season. We will also have a Sunfish on display (courtesy of Michael-Salomon Jost) and Jonathan is giving a special presentation entitled: "Basic Sailing concepts: A Brief Introduction to the Sport." We need volunteers to staff the booth for an hour or so throughout the day. Generally, there have been 2 shifts, 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 6pm. The busiest times are from 10am to 4pm and Jonathan will definitely need assistance when he does his presentation at 12:45pm. Members interested in participating, should contact Jonathan Ahlbrand at ahlbrandj@comcast.net by the end of the week (Feb 20th) so that he can submit your name to the organizers to ensure that you are on the access list. QWS will give us 5-6 free registrations. |
