Tellschow and Hurlbutt Coming To the Windward Mark Skippers Susana Tellschow and Merrick Hurlbutt came into the final race day of the season in a close contest for second place on the season. In this picture, The two skippers and their crews are coming to the windward mark with Tellschow holding the right of way with and inside position. The crews are setting the spinnaker poles in preparation for immediately hoisting their spinnaker sails as they go around the mark and head for the finishing line. |
Dolan Leads Severin As They Head To The Finish Pat Dolan and crew Gil Chesbro and Terry Kleiman already have their spinnaker sail flying as Blaine Severin and his crew turn the Windward Mark heading to the finish line. John Kolstoe and Joe Mayfield sailed with Severin. Dolan won all three races held today. |
"Wind Dancer" in Downwind Mode The image shows "Wind Dancer" in downwind mode with the boat heeled to windward so that the lower part of the mainsail is higher off the water where there is more wind and the spinnaker swinging out to windward to better catch the wind. The "Wind Dancer" Team, led by Skipper Pat Dolan have won their fifth consecutive Lightning Fleet Championship on Lake Lansing. A late season effort which saw the team winning fourteen of their last fifteen races, cemented the championship. Crew members on the 2007 team include Gil Chesbro (Middle Crew), Bob Miller (Front Crew), Chris Miller (Front Crew), Maureen Soergel (Front Crew) and Terry Kleiman (Middle Crew). The Middle Crew on "Wind Dancer" calls strategy and tactics upwind and trims the spinnaker downwind. The Front Crew member handles the foresail upwind and downwind is responsible for spinnaker pole work as well as calling strategy and tactics. |
