Tuesday Evening Junior Racing
Assuming we have enough interest, for those Junior Sailors that want to race we will run a Junior Racing Program on Tuesday evenings starting July 26th and continuing for the remainder of the summer. We will use a handicap system so that each sailor will have the opportunity to win races. There will be four short races each Tuesday (wind and weather permittign). Each week we will hand out improvement awards – and we’ll have awards at the end of the summer for those who sail at least half the races. The first race each Tuesday will begin at 6:30 pm - so sailors will need to be at the Club a little before 6 pm to get their boat ready and get to the race course on time. Parents are always welcome on the Committee Boat - bring your cameras. To sign up for or inquire about Tuesday Evening Junior Sailor Racing, please contact the Vice-Commodore by email at vice-commodore@lansingsailing.org.
Wednesday Racing
Junior Sailors are also welcome to join in the Wednesday evening racing program. They can use Club Sunfish on a first come, first sail basis – and there may be other Sunfish available to the extent that adult sailors aren’t using their privately owned boats and are willing to have them sailed. There are four short races scheduled each Wednesday evening with the first race beginning at 6:30. Afterward many of the sailors go to Spagnoula's for the Pasta Special (or other menu item) and a Race Rules Quiz by the LSC Quizmaster. Please contact me to schedule use of boats for racing. To schedule use of a Club or privately owned boat, please contact the Vice-Commodore by email at vice-commodore@lansingsailing.org.
Pleasure Sailing
For those Junior Sailors that want to do some pleasure sailing, we have a certification system that will enable the sailor to use Club Sunfish in light to moderate wind conditions with an adult monitoring them from shore (or on the water). Those who want to do this will need to get their Junior Sailing Level One Certificate and their Sunfish Sailing Certificate. I think the sailors will easily be able to get both certificates – almost all of them already have shown all the skills except the knot tying and capsize recovery.

Crew List
Some Junior Sailors may be interested in crewing on Lightnings for Sunday afternoon racing. We will be glad to add their names to our crew list so that skippers will know how to get in touch with them. For those on the crew list, we also provide instruction in how to be a good crew member – including sail trim techniques, roll tacking, foredeck work and spinnaker handling. To have a name put on the Crew List, contact the LSC Vice-Commodore by email at vice-commodore@lansingsailing.org.
