LSC 2007 Booth |
Quietwater Coming March 7 -
Volunteers Needed
LSC will be participating in the 2009 Quietwater Symposium on March 7th - and we are looking for volunteers to help with our booth. Vice-Commodore Jonathan Ahlbrand has taken this project on again, and everything is well organized as usual. Members wishing to help at the booth, should contact Jonathan Ahlbrand at ahlbrandj@comcast.net by the end of the week (Feb 20th) so that he can submit your name to the organizers to ensure that you are on the access list. QWS will give us 5-6 free registrations.
This year's Quietwater runs from 9 am to 6 pm. Adminission for adults is $8 (under 12 free). Quietwater will be held at the MSU Pavilion for Livestock and Agriculture Education.

Docks-In Scene Last Year |
LSC 2009 Calendar Set
The Lansing Sailing Club Board of Directors has set the 2009 Calendar. This years calendar mimics that of last year. Docks-In on April 11 and Docks-Out on October 10 will frame the sailing season. Lightning Racing will begin April 19 and the Sunfish/Laser season on May 20.
Holiday picnics will be held on Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day with an on-water fun activity to follow the usual noon picnic. We are also including a couple of moonlight sails.
The Junior Sailing Program will begin soon after the school year ends and the Adult Learn to Sail Program will be active again too. More details on these will be coming soon. |
Deterioring Seawall |
Projects List Discussed by Board
At it's recent meeting, the Board of Directors put some emphasis on projects we need to tackle at the beginning of the year. We will start with getting an assessment of the cost for dealing with some waterfront issues. Among other things, our launch ramp is rapidly deteriorating,. the seawall is breaking up, and we would like to remove some very large cement blocks from the small boat launch area.
Also on the list of projects that need early attention: Leveling the Sunfish/Laser Shed, putting the Race Equipment Shed on a slab, making changes to an electrical system that is seeing circuit breakers needing to be reset and replacing our broken race start horn system are among those also discussed by the Board and on this year's list for attention.
As usual, we will be counting on our terrific members for assistance. |

LSC at Strictly Sail Chicago
By Mike Moody. LSC was well represented at the Strictly Sail Boat show in Chicago. Known attendees were Steven and Susanna Wagner, Jonathan Albrand, Tom Hutton, Nikiforos Deletoros. Also on hand was Mike Moody and fellow sailors and blokart enthusiasts, Dean Kitchen (Clarkston) and Eric Douglas (Mt Clemens) with Sean Fidler (Pontiac Yacht Club) winner of LSC's Lightning regatta last spring. Sean is a blokart dealer and decided at the last minute to have a booth at the show.
The club would have had one more in attendance but for a quirk in his calendar. I won't name names here but his initials are Doug Carlson. (Ask him about it. Might qualify him for an award at the banquet next fall).Moody and the group were there to help Sean out as well as enjoy the show. The show seemed well attended (even in this economy) and sales of the usual small equipment and accessories were brisk. |
Wednesday Spags Outing Draws Sailors
By Mike Moody. Wednesday night at Spag's saw 22 people cycle in and out swapping the usual lies . . (I mean stories, STORIES!) and getting caught up on the latest news. It gave the ice boating crowd from the club a chance to commiserate about the lack of sailable ice on the lake so far this winter. All in all, a pleasant break from a snowy and cold first part of winter. And I think Treasurer John Fishbeck even collected some dues money.
Can spring be far away? |
Treasurer's Report Available
Treasurer John Fishbeck's report for January has been prepared and posted on the website. The "short sweet version" is that after paying the winter property tax bill, and before receiving any membership renewal revenue, we have a balance on the plus side with no outstanding debts. Members can see a copy of the report in the members area of the website. Any member having difficulty accessing the report should contact the commodore. |
