Looking outside for the last week or so, it is hard to believe the docks are out - but they are, and the checklist for getting the Club ready for winter is almost complete. Meanwhile, a few members with small boats have been seen to launch and get a couple of final sails in.

Thanks to all our members a lot was accomplished at this year's "Docks Out" day. Not only did the docks come out and the grounds raked, but a lot of additional jobs were taken care of. We are way ahead of most past years.

Jonathan Ahlbrand took over as the "In Charge" when the Fletchers travelled east to see their new grandbaby (be sure to ask them to show you pictures), and did a terrific job of keeping everyone on task and working throught he checklist.

Members using the Club should now avoid using the toilets. All the water lines have been flushed out, the water shut off and the toilets winterized.

Thanks to the Club Boat Crew, we have been able to get all the Club Sunfish and Lasers stowed in the Sail Shed (with the exception of one that is tenting the cockpit of a Club Lightning). Club Lightning "Oh m" is covered and stored in a pole barn while "Evergreen" has been tented with a Club Laser and carefully wrapped with a tarp.

Thanks to a dedicated grounds crew, a good job of trimming tall grass that had grown in some areas has been completed.

The Committee Boat and Safety Boat are getting winterized and will be moved to storage soon.

The Safety Boat lift was taken out by Inland Abyss and serviced. And, the MSU Sailing Club, in exchange for keeping their 420s at the Club this fall, brought in the South Dock.

Commodore Pat Dolan has volunteered to help any member that still needs to pull their mast or get their boat covered for the winter - just email him at patrick@dolan.name or give him a call at 517-214-6568.

"Wind Dancer " Takes Season Lightning Championship

The "Wind Dancer" team struck again in 2008, posting a sixth consecutive Lightning Fleet Championship. The mainstays of the team throughout this period have been Bob Miller in the front of the boat, Gil Chesbro in the middle and Pat Dolan as skipper. However, others have participated in the effort as well. Chris Miller, Doug Crawford, John Kolstoe, Lissy Goralnik and Carolyn Combs also sailed on "Wind Dancer" during the 2008 season.

Mike Moody drove "Moody's Booty" to a second place finish for 2008. Mike had ten first place and eight second place finishes to help amass 2149 points for the season.

Jonathan Ahlbrand made a big move from the seventh place finish he scored two years ago, finishing third. Among his 37 races were six first place finishes and fourteen seconds - almost twice as many top two spots as last year.

Complete results and standings can be found on the Lansing Sailing Club website at www.lansingsailing.org. Click on "Racing" then on the fleet symbol.

Lansing Sailing Club Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Lansing Sailing Club will be held in conjunction with the Awards Banquet on November 7th.

Members will soon receive their official notice of the meeting by email. The notice will include information on voting by proxy, nominations and budget recommendations for 2009.

The Board of Directors, in accordance with the By-laws, is nominating Pat Dolan for Commodore, Jonathan Ahlbrand for Vice-Commodore, Jim Fletcher for Rear-Commodore, Merrick Hurlbutt for Secretary, John Fishbeck for Treasurer, Doug Carlson for Club Boat Director, Wayne Loescher for Facilities Director and Dennis Dudley for the At-Large position expiring in 2010. Susanna Wagner continues in the At-Large position that expires in 2009 and Mike Moody would continue as Post Commodore if Dolan is re-elected as Commodore. Additional nominations can be made at the Annual Meeting.

Also in accordance with the By-laws, the Board is recommending a budget for 2009 that anticipates no change in dues or fees, and cost of living increases in taxes, utilities and other normal operating expenses. Projects recommended in the 2009 budget are filling some low spots on the property, creating an inexpensive limestone base for the Race Equipment Shed and allocating remaining amounts to a waterfront improvement fund for seawalls, launch ramp, launch area, and rack space.
