What a Regatta! Twenty four sailors, a super race committee, fabulous support from members, terrific sponsors, great door prizes - and plenty of wind.

In the United States from Japan and living in the Detroit area, Hiroshi Maeda has been sailing Lasers with the Pontiac Yacht Club bunch. The Commodore was glad to make his boat available (and sailed one of the Club Lasers) - so Maeda made the trip and won the Regatta. It was a narrow victory however, by only one point over Craig Pearson.

About half of the sailors were local and half from out of town. Local sailor Mike Moody finished third. A Detroit area junior sailor, Michael Seago, led the youth corps.

There is a write up on the home page of the website at www.lansingsailing.org with a link to the detailed results. In addition, Stephen Wagner took lots of pictures and put them on the web. See them at:

Moody Continues Hot Streak in Sunday Lightning Racing

Mike Moody picked up on Sunday where he left off on Saturday - sailing extremely well and won two of the three Lightning Fleet races. John LeFevre and Susanna Wagner joined Mike in the boat for the second straight Sunday and the synergy continued. Moody established a slight lead going into the final windward mark and held off hard chargers for the first race win. Dolan was second and Koster third.

The middle race was won by the "Wind Dancer" crew of Pat Dolan, Bob Miller and Gil Chesbro. Three of the boats went far left after the start and suddenly found they had overstood the windward mark. This opened the door for Merrick Hurlbutt, who took "Bo Jangles II" up the center, to get around the mark first. On the second windward, wind shifts plagued the leaders as they tried how to decide who to cover when the next several boats split. "Wind Dancer" was the winner in that exchange, making up the entire deficit in a key shift. Dolan held on to the end for the win. Meanwhile, Hurlbutt and crew Adrianne and Scott Watkins were victim yet again as wind filled in on the downwind and enabled Ahlbrand's "Bananas" to come out of the blue and steal second.

In the final race of the day, Moody was in exactly the right place for a last second shift during the start sequence - and quickly sped off to a hundred yard lead. Everyone chased, but Ahlbrand-Deletolas-Huttion were second and Koster-Marshall-Claiborne third.

Complete results and standings can be found on the Lansing Sailing Club website at www.lansingsailing.org. Click on "Racing" then on the fleet symbol.

Don't Forget Labor Day Picnic

Can it already be Labor Day? Yes, next Monday at noon. Plan on spending it at the Club. LSC provides grilled Brats and Chicken, paper, plastic and soft drinks. Bring a dish to pass.

There will be a terrific on-water event too - after the picnic. Don't miss it.

Larry Koster reports that the super-duper-45th anniversary Lansing Sailing Club 2008 T-Shirts are being created with great care - and will be available within a few days.

Larry will be distributing the T-Shirts and collecting your piggy bank supply of cash over the coming weekend and on the Wednesday after Labor Day.

Thanks again to Larry for coordinating this project and to Ann Siegle for her great artwork.
