The "Sail Fevre" crew

"Sail Fevre", sailed by John LeFevre, John Kolstoe and Scott Watkins, won Sunday's final race. "The right side finally paid off," said skipper LeFevre. "We tried all day without success, but on the final upwind leg of the day, it did pay off".

With all the boats rounding close together on their final windward leg and almost immediately tacking to starboard, "Sail Fevre" went right a few more boat lengths. When they did go to starboard, they crossed ahead of the other boats that had gone over to port. Now, as the others came back to starboard, "Sail Fevre went back to port, crossed the fleet and headed for the right side.

At the windward mark, they were ahead by 15 boat lengths. The other boats rode some gusts up from behind to close a little, but not anywhere near enough to catch the "Fevre" crew.

Pat Dolan, Chris Miller and Gil Chesbro sailed "Wind Dancer" to wins in the first two races and a second in the final race. In the first two races, they were closely challenged by "Bananas". Jonathan Ahlbrand, Nikiforos Delatolas and Tom Hutton sailed very well and were held back only by a start that put them in a bind as the wind shifted unexpectedly at the gun.

Blaine Severin made it back to sail the final race with crew member Neil Harrison. They finished third.

Lightning Regatta and Laser Sailing Video on YouTube

Jonathan Ahlbrand put together a great video on the recent Lake Lansing Lightning Regatta. Stephen Wagner took the images and video. Great job guys. Find the video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYltWVGABVM#.

Note the Lightning hitting the start mark. Rules require a penalty turn (not a restart). Did the boat do her circle?

Jonathan also took Laser sailing footage Saturday. While winds kept us from giving tourists sailboat rides, it didn't stop some LSC Laser Sailors from getting wet and having some wild rides.

Don't Forget Sunfish Regatta this Saturday (June 7)

A start from the 2007 Regatta

Sunfish Sailors from throughout the midwest will be gathering at the Lansing Sailing Club Saturday, June 7 for the annual Sunfish Regatta.

A 10:00 am Skipper's Meeting will be followed by six races - assuming the weather cooperates. Registration is at 9:30 and the Club gates will be open even earlier for sailors to get their boats ready.

More information can be found in the Notice of Race on the Lansing Sailing Club website at www.lansingsailing.org.

High Winds Blow Out "Be a Tourist"

It was a beautiful warm day - but winds in the 20 plus range made it impossible to offer sailboat rides to "Tourists" who came by the Lansing Sailing Club for "Be a Tourist in your own Town".

Jonathan Ahlbrand had things well organized and our crew of terrific volunteers was ready to go - but the wind gods weren't cooperating.

Jonathan did take names and email addresses so we can offer sailboat rides on make up days later.

We also had a number of inquiries about various Lansing Sailing Club programs. Perhaps we'll see some tourists become members and spend more time sailing on Lake Lansing.
