Ahlbrand Comes From Behind to Win Sunday |
|
|||||
With light and variable conditions, each of the Lightning crews Sunday found themselves in the lead, and within seconds at the back of the pack. The last race of the day provided the most drama. Jonathan Ahlbrand was second rounding the last windward mark and heading for the finish - with a lot of ground to make up. However, he brought his own gust of wind down the course and passed "Wind Dancer" to win by half a boat length. Their day ended with a second, a third and the come from behind first. Michael-Salomon Jost and Tom Hutton were again in "Shibumi" - and definitely becoming a force. They led around the first mark in at least one race and were close in every contest. On the day, they were 3-2-3. "Wind Dancer" had Lissy Goralnik aboard with Gil Chesbro and Pat Dolan Sunday and she picked up right where she left off last fall, having no difficulty managing the full several types of sets and douses the team is known for. There was one bear away set to go with several gybe sets and floating sets. At the leeward end of the course, Lissy was on top of both the standard takedown and gybe takedowns. Dolan-Chesbro-Goralnik celebrated two firsts and a second when they returned to the Club from racing. Lightning racing continues this week with a special Thursday (May 8) evening race day. There will be no racing on Mother's Day.
