Unfortunate chute collapse - but "Shibumi" keeps her nose in clear air and is still first to the mark.

MS Jost and Tom Hutton defend against "Wind Dancer"

With light and variable conditions, each of the Lightning crews Sunday found themselves in the lead, and within seconds at the back of the pack.

The last race of the day provided the most drama. Jonathan Ahlbrand was second rounding the last windward mark and heading for the finish - with a lot of ground to make up. However, he brought his own gust of wind down the course and passed "Wind Dancer" to win by half a boat length. Their day ended with a second, a third and the come from behind first.

Michael-Salomon Jost and Tom Hutton were again in "Shibumi" - and definitely becoming a force. They led around the first mark in at least one race and were close in every contest. On the day, they were 3-2-3.

"Wind Dancer" had Lissy Goralnik aboard with Gil Chesbro and Pat Dolan Sunday and she picked up right where she left off last fall, having no difficulty managing the full several types of sets and douses the team is known for. There was one bear away set to go with several gybe sets and floating sets. At the leeward end of the course, Lissy was on top of both the standard takedown and gybe takedowns. Dolan-Chesbro-Goralnik celebrated two firsts and a second when they returned to the Club from racing.

Lightning racing continues this week with a special Thursday (May 8) evening race day. There will be no racing on Mother's Day.

Lightning Racing Thursday - Not Mother's Day

Lightning sailors are reminded that we won't be racing on Mother's Day - but this Thursday instead.

The first of three scheduled races will begin at 6:30.

Instead of a Skipper's Meeting, Crews should report to the Race Committee on the water.

Lightning Regatta on Lake Lansing May 17

The 43rd annual Lake Lansing Lightning Fleet Regatta notices are out thanks to Fleet Captian Blaine Severin. It's coming soon, a week from this coming Saturday - so skippers should get their crews lined up.

Registration begins at 8:30 am. A 10 am skipper's meeting will immediately preceed the first of five races if the weather cooperates.

The infamous Chili and Cornbread lunch will follow race two - and the group will be off the water by about 4 pm.

As usual there will be beer, pop and refreshments at the Clubhouse as trophies and handed out. If there is a MSU Spartan alum on board, the boat is eligible for the MSU Alumni Cup.

More details are on the LSC website at www.lansingsailing.org. Those wanting housing, another crew member or having other questions should contact Blaine Severin at 517-349-3068 or bfseverin@hotmail.com.
