Docks Are Out |
|
|||||
The docks came out Saturday as Lansing Sailing Club members took advantage of a beautiful October day. Not only that, but Rear Commodore Jim Fletcher's leadership got a lot of other things done as well. With the Committee Boat and Safety Boat already at Wilson Marine for winterizing, the Club Boat group was able to focus on the Club sailboats. They are being put away cleaner this year - and with repairs already made. The grounds crew did a great job of not only gathering leaves, but of cleaning up overgrown brush and cement pieces. Not only that, but an old gate anchor was dug up and will no longer be the cause of stumbles or of nicks in the mower blade. On the dock front, the crew tested a new "dock dolly" created for us by Schneider Fabrication as part of the new Main Dock. The dolly slides under the dock section while in the water, then a winch invokes a scissors action within the dolly to raise the dock so that it can be easily wheeled away. The dolly works as well on the old dock as on the new dock - a big bonus for members whose backs were suffering more and more each year from having to lift and carry the heavy old dock sections. As is always the case, there are a few more things to do before the Club can be buttoned up for winter - so members that couldn't make it to docks-out Saturday should contact Jim Fletcher to help with some of the remaining items.
