Wednesday Racing is now over for the season. Eleven Lasers were on the water Wednesday and were again led by Doug Carlson as he has on many Wednesdays this year, taking two first place finishes and a second. Doug ends up as the Fleet Champion.

Close behind on Wednesday was Olav Messerschmidt with a 2-1-2 night. Olav also finishes second for the season. Thirds were registered by Pat Dolan in a 3-5-3 night and Susanna Tellschow who ended up 4-3-5. George Siegle had two fourth place finishes.

For the Sunfish Fleet, John Fishbeck ends up as the Season winner, followed closely by Jim Fletcher. Fishbeck had another solid Wednesday of racing, finishing 3-2-3. Jim Fletcher sailed even better on this last Wednesday, ending up with two seconds and a first.

However it was Michale-Salomon Jost who celebrated with his first top finish in his Sunfish on Wednesday .

Dennis Dudley also accounted for a first place finish Wednesday, scoring his in the third race.

In all, ten Sunfish participated in last Wednesday's racing.

Later at Spags, with a record turnout, the Quizmaster was unable to fool the majority, but almost half the group had the wrong answer. For the season, the entire group finished above fifty percent - a good result considering several quizes early in the season stumped a high percentage of the sailors.

Wind Dancer Powers Through on Sunday

"Wind Dancer" leading downwind on Sunday

Seven Lightning crews took to the water Sunday on one of the premier days of the sailing season. A nice breeze from the north with the usual 20-30 degree shifts was the order of the day.

In very tight racing, "Wind Dancer" ran the table, winning all three races. But it wasn't easy. In only one race did the "Wind Dancer" crew of Pat Dolan, Bob Miller and Gil Chesbro lead at every mark.

Each crew shared one of the top four spots in at least one race.In race one, Jonathan Ahlbrand led at the first two marks before sailing into a low wind hole. However, Ahlbrand and crew Mike Moody and John Kolstoe recovered in the second race to wrap up a fourth place spot.

In race three, Larry Koster was the leader at mark one.Larry Koster and Michael-Salomon Jost were almost able to cross the leader on port tack half way up the final leg, but were forced to tack away at the last moment. Although Koster and Jost worked challenged all the way to the end, they settled for second.

In race one, Susanna Tellschow came from behind on the final leg. Sailing with Lissy Goralnik and Olav Messerschmidt, they gybed soon after rounding the windward mark, caught a nice wind gust and worked past two boats to capture second place.

Blaine Severin, Julie ierce and Alanna Harvey were on board "Unidentified Flying Pigasus" and contested solidly in every race. Their final result was a 4-2-3 day.

Merrick Hurlbutt, Adrianne Tuttle and Scott Watkins sailed "Bo Jangles II" to a fourth place spot in the middle race.

Jim and Maribeth Fletcher, who struggled a week ago with a flapping jib and a boat that wouldn't point, spent some time re-turning his boat. The result was a much improved boat that was easily keeping up with the others on the pointing front. "Splash" had a third and a fourth on the day to show for the effort.

Labor Day Fun on the Water

Boats on their way to collecting puzzle parts

Between thirty and forty members, families and friends participated in the 2007 Labor Day picnic and fun regatta at the Lansing Sailing Club.

Pratts took on responsibility for organizing the event and did a superb job - as usual.

A treasure hunt based on puzzle parts the sailors had to find and put together was the on-water event. The group was up to the challenge and, after collecting the puzzle parts, quickly came to the solution. Soon everyone was sorting through the "booty" for good stuff.

Tasks That Need Attention at LSC

Fulfill a Duty Obligation

Here are some tasks that need attention at the Lansing Sailing Club.

Completing a task fulfills a Deck Duty obligation. In addition to Docks In, Docks Out and serving on a Race Committee, each member has one Deck Duty obligation every year (such as helping organize a Holiday Picnic). Members who have not met their Deck Duty obligation can do so by selecting something from this list.

After completing a task, leave a note for Rear Commodore Jim Fletcher or Commodore Pat Dolan to receive credit. If funds are expended to complete the task, leave a receipt with your name on it in the Treasurer's box for reimbursement.

Questions? Contact Jim Fletcher or Pat Dolan.

Add Electrical Outlet In Kitchen. Add another electrical outlet in the Kitchen area of the Clubhouse near the one used by the refrigerator. When installed, add a six outlet plug-in like the one in the existing outlet, then plug the refrigerator, water cooler, coffee maker and microwave into the new outlets - removing the extension cord currently in use.

Remove Weeds from 20' of South Berm. Matt Allswede got a good start on this task, but there is still a section or two of weeds to remove from the South Berm (both sides) in preparation for wood chips to be put down. Be careful not to remove evergreens, bushes or ground cover (Bishop's Weed?) planted there. This is a long berm, so there are multiple 20' sections that need attention.

Reinforce Spar/Sail Supports in Small Sail Shed. Reinforce where possible, otherwise replace the spar/sail supports in the Small Sailshed that are loose so that sails and spars have solid resting places.

Recent Tasks Completed - Thanks
