Rainy Sunday

A lack of wind caused a cancellation of sailing activities at the Lansing Sailing Club last Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.

Instead of sailing, our Junior Sailors went swimming Tuesday evening and then stopped off at the County Park for a trip to the Cone Zone on the way back to the Club.

Laser and Sunfish sailors found a repeat of the low/no wind conditions on Wednesday and quickly adjourned to Spagnoulas where Quizmaster Doug Carlson managed to stump a majority again.

On Sunday, it was rain and scattered thunderstorms that kept sailors at home or off the water.

We are all looking for better wind conditions next week. Meanwhile, detailed rResults and season standings are on the LSC website at www.lansingsailing.org. Click on "Racing" from the home page navagation menu, then on the Lightning Logo.

Need your Boat Washed?

Anna on RC Duty

Anna's boat washing is back - for the month of August only!!

Call Anna at 517-614-2507, or catch her at the club to schedule a boat washing.

Anna charges $35 to wash a Lightning and $20 to wash a Laser/Sunfish ($10 more to wax a Lightning, $5 more to wax a Laser/Sunfish).

Boat owners need to provide boat soap and wax - or Anna will pick up what is needed and add it to the price of the wash and/or wax.

When scheduling your wash, be sure to also arrange to leave the boat(s) near the water faucet located at the south ramp.

You will want to hurry while time slots last!

Harrison Flies on St. Clair River Race

"Snow Owl" Flying

Neil Harrison shares this great picture with us and the following report.

The picture you see if "Snow Owl" sailing in the St Clair River Race held at the Port Huron Yacht Club on July 14th. We took a third in the race.

Winds were about 30 knots on our nose, gusting to over 40 at times. This made the trip down the river a beat the whole way. I was at the helm.

Between dodging freighters and the wind, we had a time of it. We actually broached once. The gust had to have been over 50 knots that knocked us down.

As you can see from the picture, we reefed the mainsail and had the number 2 jib up.

Tasks That Need Attention at LSC

Fulfill a Duty Obligation

Here are some tasks that need attention at the Lansing Sailing Club.

Completing a task fulfills a Deck Duty obligation. In addition to Docks In, Docks Out and serving on a Race Committee, each member has one Deck Duty obligation every year (such as helping organize a Holiday Picnic). Members who have not met their Deck Duty obligation can do so by selecting something from this list.

After completing a task, leave a note for Rear Commodore Jim Fletcher or Commodore Pat Dolan to receive credit. If funds are expended to complete the task, leave a receipt with your name on it in the Treasurer's box for reimbursement.

Questions? Contact Jim Fletcher or Pat Dolan.

Replace Gate Padlock Chain. The small chain holding the padlock to the front gate is broken. Obtain replacement materials, remove and replace the broken chain.

Spray Round-Up On Grass/Weeds. Spray Round-Up on weeds and grass growing in the driveway and under the Covered Rack. Obtain Round-Up if none is available.

Weed Flower Bed Next to Clubhouse. Remove grass and weeds from the flower bed on the North side of the Clubhouse to make it easier for the Stella d'Oro Daylillies to grow.

Add Electrical Outlet In Kitchen. Add another electrical outlet in the Kitchen area of the Clubhouse near the one used by the refrigerator. When installed, add a six outlet plug-in like the one in the existing outlet, then plug the refrigerator, water cooler, coffee maker and microwave into the new outlets - removing the extension cord currently in use.

Remove Weeds from 20' of South Berm. Remove the weeds from 20' of the South Berm (both sides) in preparation for wood chips to be put down. Be careful not to remove evergreens, bushes or ground cover (Bishop's Weed?) planted there. This is a long berm, so there are multiple 20' sections that need attention.

Reinforce Spar/Sail Supports in Small Sail Shed. Reinforce where possible, otherwise replace the spar/sail supports in the Small Sailshed that are loose so that sails and spars have solid resting places.
