Merrick Hurlbutt, Adrianne Tuttle and Scott Watkins found a way to split with "Wind Dancer" part way up the second windward leg of Race Two, found a favorable shift and crossed ahead into a lead they never relinquished. Result: a win in Lightning Fleet Racing Sunday afternoon. Sporting their new "Bo Jangles II" graphics, the team was inspired to come from several hundred yards back in the final race of the day to nip "Sail Fevre" for second place. This matched their result in Race One, but was much more dramatic.
"Wind Dancer" was a hot boat for the day, getting off to early leads in all races and extending in all but race two to finish substantially ahead. Maureen Soergel, sailing only her second race day - and first since mid-May, kept improving her technique with tacking and handling the pole. Of course, just when she thought she had something understood, Dolan called for a gybe set or something else new.
Three different crews took control of third place in each race. Larry Koster, Michael-Salomon Jost and Gary Marx took that spot in the first race, nipping Susanna Tellschow by inches at the finish. Susanna returned the favor in the next race, finishing just ahead of Koster. Mike Moody and Julie Pierce sailed with Susanna aboard a borrowed boat, "Unidentified Flying Pigasus".
In the final race of the day it was John LeFevre that worked wind shifts well early in the race to stay close to "Wind Dancer". Only when an unfavorable wind shift found "Sail Fevre" headed coming to the finish while "Bo Jangles II" was lifted did they settle for third.
