Free sailboat rides are again being offered by the Lansing Sailing Club as part of "Be a Tourist in Your Own Town". This event was a real hit when we inaugurated it last year and is already being dubbed "an old favorite" by City Pulse.

Adding to the fun at LSC Saturday will be the annual Sunfish Regatta. Come on all you Sunfish Sailors - get out and participate.

A special thanks to all the LSC members who are helping out with these two events.

With all the sails on the water and activity at LSC, tourists should have a colorful and exciting experience.

And, on Sunday Lightning Fleet Racing takes center stage. A great weekend of sailing is in store.

Look for pictures and stories in the next e-Sheet. Below are pictures from last year's "Be a Tourist" day.

Memorial Day Picnic Attracts Nice Crowd

What number is in this balloon?

A game of 21 culminated Monday's Memorial Day fun at the Lansing Sailing Club. Participants collected balloons that had been set free. Each balloon had a slip of paper inside with a number on it. Four teams competed, deciding collectively when to stop bursting balloons in hopes of having the best total without going over 21.

There was some great food - grilled chicken, brats and hot dogs to go with dishes contributed by those who came to picnic.

Paul and Bonnie Davis brought a new game for the group to try out - tossing batons and trying to knock over castles of opponents. There was a lot of strategy and skill involved and the group had fun playing.

The weather man cooperated by bringing us one of the nicest Memorial Days in memory. Sunny and mid 70s.

New Member John Kolstoe and Sons Sail CL16

John Kolstoe and sons

John Kolstoe and two sons came to the Club on Memorial Day to take their first sail off the LSC property.

The Kolstoes have a CL16.

There wasn't a lot of wind, but enough for a shakedown cruise.

John and Gail Kolstoe have three children: Aiden, Alex and Matt - and are neighbors of the Severins in Okemos. John is also interested in crewing and got high marks from Mike Moody for his work on "Moody's Booty" in a recent day of racing.

Be sure to introduce yourself and welcome the Kolstoes to LSC.

No Wind Wednesday - Racing Was Cancelled

There were sailors Wednesday, but no wind and no racing.

Instead some of the group decided to catch up on some jobs at home or work - and most of the group went to Spags.

The Scoring Guy has race results up to date. Check out details and standings for all fleets by going to the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org, clicking "Racing" in the left hand navagation column and then clicking on the fleet of interest..

Kneed a Knot?

A great site on the web to learn about knots is "Animated Knots by Grog". Portage Laser Sailor Jim Meyer called our attention to this site in an email to Doug Carlson. Check it out by going to www.animatedknots.com.

Not only will you see an animation showing how to tie the knot but you can choose to see it in slow motion or even frame by frame.

The site also provides information on how each knot is used but lots of other information such as reliability and load, alternatives and much more.

A total of 119 knots are found on the site. Remember this site the next time you want a windsor knot in your tie. There is a link to this site on the LSC web site. Go to the Education page and then to the Online Resources page.

Membership Directory Updated

Julie Pierce sent in an address change and new member Maureen Soergel has been added to the Directory. Members can obtain a directory from the "Members Only" page of the LSC web site. Contact the Commodore if any difficulty is encountered.
