Correction:
Tim Potter was sailing with Mike Moody last Sunday (not Susanna Tellschow). The on-line version of the May 7, 2007 e-Sheet was changed to reflect his information but the version emailed was sent before the correction was made.

A tight mark rounding coming up

Susanna and Stephen Lead in Race 2

Light winds dominated Lake Lansing all day, but there was just enough for six Lightnigns to get two races in yesterday (Thursday, May 10).

In the first race, Chris Miller, Terry Kleiman and Pat Dolan started at the boat end of the line with good speed and rode a ribbon of wind all the way to the windward mark. Susanna Tellschow, sailing with Stephen Wagner was second - converting a very good start. The team of Merrick Hurlbutt and Scott Watkins finished third.

In the second race, Susanna got off to an excellent start again. Pushing left to the layline, she came in just behind Jim Fletcher at the first windward mark. However, Susanna and Stephen had an outstanding gybe set to jump into a first place lead they never relinquished.

Jim Fletcher and Bob Miller finished second in race two while Hurlbutt and Watkins put up another third.

A lack of wind at the end of the second race invited the sailors back to the dock where a group of Race Committee members and sailors put the canopy on the Safety Boat lift with the remaining daylight.

Despite a light wind, it was a beautiful evening to be on the water - and it culminated in a very colorful sunset.

Complete results and standings aren't yet posted on the website. However, look for them soon through a link on the "Racing" page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

America's Cup Challengers Start Semi-Finals Next Monday

The final four challengers are set to begin fighting it out next Monday to see who will eventually face the Swiss Team Alingi in the 32nd America's Cup. The American Team "BMW Oracle" will face off against "Luna Rossa" from Italy in a best of nine match racing series. In the other best of nine match racing series, "Emirates Team New Zealand" will face Spain's "Desafío Español".

Racing is scheduled to begin at approximately 8 am, Lansing time with coverage on "Versus". Each race takes approximately two hours to sail, including some time for pre-race coverage and brief post-race interviews.
