Docks In
Saturday
April 14
9 am to Noon

2007 Season sign-up coming soon.

The long winter is over - marked officially at the Lansing Sailing Club by putting the docks in and otherwise getting the Club ready for sailing season. Docks-In is a week from Saturday, April 14th from nine am until noon. Members are asked to reserve this time.

Members unable to participate due to schedule conflicts are asked to contact Rear Commodore Jim Fletcher as soon as possible to let him know and to make arrangements for an alternate assignment. Reach Jim by phone at 517-655-2174 or by email at janef@tir.com.

A detailed list of assignments is posted on the LSC web site. Log in when requested using "lsc" as the user name and the gate combination as the password. Contact the Commodore if you have difficulty logging in or need a reminder of the gate combination.

There will be a work party on Friday, April 13th, from 4 to 7 to prepare for Docks In. Members unable to make Docks In, may be able to participate as an alternative.

America's Cup Challenger Series Underway

Fleet Racing on Day 2

The 32nd America's Cup Challenger Series is underway. Fleet racing began April 3rd and continues through April 7th. Then, on April 16th the round robins begin to determine which of the challengers will meet Alingi in the America's Cup.

On the second day of fleet racing there was plenty of excitement. In a closely contested first leg, United Internet Team Germany's rig clipped the Italian +39 Challenge Team boat during a duck. This caused the new mast on +39 to come down in close quarters. Alingi went on to win the race and sits atop the fleet racing standings as we go to press.

There is no TV in the US, although internet users can subscribe to "Live Sailing" and see live coverage as well as archived races using a 3D animation technique. Go to www.americascupanywhere.com/us/.

LSC Participates in Quietwater Symposium

Wayne Loescher and Bob Miller at LSC booth

The Lansing Sailing Club booth at the early March Quietwaters Syposium attracted a lot of interest. Several signed up to participate in our new Canoe/Kayak Program and Membership Coordinator Jonathan Ahlbrand has a list of prospective members to follow up on.

Special thanks to a loyal crew that staffed our booth:
  Jonathan Ahlbrand
  Michael-Salomon Jost
  Thomas Jost
  Robert Brook
  Susanna Tellschow
  Stephen Wagner
  Wayne Loesher
  Robert Miller
  Scott Watkins
  Jim Fletcher
  Mike Moody

An extra special thanks to Michael-Salomon Jost for bringing his Sunfish to add color to the booth.

Blokarters Mike Moody, Dean Kitchen and Sean Fidler sponsored a Blokart booth at the symposium - next to the LSC booth and also enjoyed conversations with hundreds of people. Unfortunately a fresh snowfall prevented demos outside in the parking area, but action video they brought got their message across.

Jonathan Ahlbrand conducted a session on "Wind Dynamics" in addition to organizing the Lansing Sailing Club booth.

LSC January Minutes on Web
