March 14 - 6:30 pm

2007 Season sign-up coming soon.

Attention Lansing Sailing Club Members: We need some volunteers to help staff our booth at the upcoming Quitewater Symposium to be held Saturday, March 3rd at the MSU Pavilion. Please respond by the end of the week (February 16th) to Jonathan Ahlbrand because he needs to submit volunteer names to the organizers ahead of time to ensure that our booth workers are on the access list. Reach Jonathan by email at ahlbrandj@comcast.net or by phone at 517-339-3816.

While the event name is "Quietwater" The event draws a large variety of outdoor/environmental enthusiasts with interests that include: Kayaking, Sailing, Outdoor Photography, Fly Fishing, Cycling and even Dog Sledding. There are also special presentations on a variety of topics.

The Lansing Sailing Club's core focus for this event is to build awareness of sailing in the Lansing area and hopefully attract some potential new members. As the event program states "Discover Sailing in Lansing! Since 1963, The Lansing Sailing Club has promoted recreational sailing and non-motorized use of Lake Lansing.  Sailboat racing, youth sailing instruction, numerous social events and a peaceful lake-front setting provide a family atmosphere that promotes low impact use of our local water resources."

The Lansing Sailing Club will have a double sized booth with a table, chairs, and a computer/projector showing photos from our past season. We will also have a Sunfish on display (courtesy of Michael-Salomon Jost) and Jonathan is giving a special presentation on Wind and Water Dynamics.

This annual event is sponsored by the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and is part of Agriculture Natural Resources Week. Learn more about the Symposium at www.quietwatersymposium.org/. Learn more about the Agriculture Natural Resources Week at: www.canr.msu.edu/anrweek/.

LSC Board Approves Kayak/Canoe Program

Kayak or Canoe on Lake Lansing

The Lansing Sailing Club Board of Directors has approved a Kayak/Canoe Program for 2007 on a trial basis. Be sure to let your kayaking or canoeing friends know about this opprtunity.

Under the program, Kayak or Canoe enthusiasts (who are not members of the Lansing Sailing Club) pay an annual activity charge of $175. This entitles the Kayaker or Canoeist and his/her immediate family to use Club launching facilities and grounds to access Lake Lansing and use LSC facilities at any time providing it does not interfere with scheduled Club activities.

For an additional activity charge, program participants can also keep their vessel on the property if there is space available.

More information is available by contacting Membership Coordinator Jonathan Ahlbrand by email at ahlbrandj@comcast.net or by phone at 517-339-3816.

A promotional slide show is also available to view on the Lansing Sailing Club web site at:

Check Out New LSC Slide Show - You May Be A Screen Star

Picture from new LSC slide show

As part of LSC's membership promotion effort for 2007, a slide show has been prepared. It will be shown at the upcoming Quietwater Symposium (see article above). The slide show is also available on the Lansing Sailing Club web site.

The slide show has three main themes. First, that there is a lot of sailing on Lake Lansing. Second, information about the boats we sail. Third, some of the benefits of joining.

Pictures taken during the past year by race committee members and others were used to create the show. Almost any Lansing Sailing Club member that was an active participant in racing, holiday picnics and other Club activities could find themselves on the screen.

To enjoy the slide show, check in at
