2007 Projects Underway

Join us at Spags
Wednesday
Jan 10 - 6:30 pm

2007 Season sign-up coming soon.

The 2007 season for the Lansing Sailing Club is already underway with some important projects underway. Here is a short progress report on four projects.

Membership
Jonathan Ahlbrand is leading our membership effort this year. He brought several proposals to the Board of Directors for expanding our membership base. LSC will have a booth at the upcoming "Quiet Waters Symposium" to be held at the MSU Pavilion March 3. By the way, Jonathan will be needing help at the booth. To volunteer, email him at membership@lansingsailing.org.

Clubhouse
The Board of Directors is exploring options for making significant improvements in the Clubhouse. Members are currently being asked to comment on a proposed expenditure to obtain soil samples so that foundation work that would be necessary under most options can be properly costed.

Technology
Susanna Tellschow is heading up an effort to consolidate our communications, database and other technology related activities - with a recognition that almost everyone now is an active email and internet user.

Docks and Racks
Plans are going forward to replace some of our older dock sections with a new, more stable, floating dock. Discussions aimed at getting all rack boats off the ground are also underway. Doug Carlson is heading up the Dock Project.

Further discussion and action on these and other projects will take place at the next LSC Board Meeting, January 28th from 1 pm to 3 pm at the Dolan home. Members are welcome to attend and participate.

"Pay Your Dues" Gathering Wednesday, Feb 7

Annual statements for dues and fees will be going out to members in the next few days. Members wanting to save the cost of an envelope and stamp - plus enjoy some warm sailing comeraderie - are invited to come to Spagnoula's on Wednesday, February 7th. Order dinner if you want - or enjoy some liquid refeshment along with some good discussion. The deadline for paying dues is February 10th.

This year, for the first time, the annual statements will be sent by email. Members are asked to look for their statement - and to contact the commodore if they have questions or don't receive their statement. Reach the commodore by email at commodore@lansingsailing.org

Strictly Sail Chicago is February 1-4

It's time for a fun weekend in Chicago. Some good hotel room bargains are available - and Strictly Sail will be at the Navy Pier from February 1st through the 4th. Check out the web site for more detail at www.strictlysail.com/shows/chicago.asp. There are plenty of other things to do too. "The Silk Road" exhibits are at the Art Institute. Check on Sue at the Field Museum. Learn about Baluga whales at the Acquarium. Shop till you drop on the Miracle Mile. Take one of the Chicago Architecutre tours. Whatever your interest, you'll find something fun in the Windy City.

Doug Carlson, a frequent Chicago visitor and Strictly Sail veteran, will gladly answer questions you may have. Contact Doug by email at carlson.doug@comcast.net.

Race Committee Employment Opportunity for Mature High School or College Student

Anna attends Race Committee Seminar

The Lansing Sailing Club will again be hiring individuals to run our races on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Preference is given to LSC members and their families.

In the past, we have hired high school and college students. The pay is $10 per hour.

Although experience is helpful, LSC will provide necessary training. We hope to get people on board soon so they can particiapte in a February 24-25 seminar at Gull Lake. Anna Hamilton attended last year and found it very informative and helpful.

Anyone interested is urged to contact Vice Commodore Gil Chesbro as soon as possible. Gil can be reached by email at vice-commodore@lansingsailing.org.
