It's the Holiday Season - Give Associate Membership as Gift

Someone looking for a great Holiday, birhtday or Valentine gift need look no further. An Associate Membership in the Lansing Sailing Club for $150 is a great gift.

For more information, contact Membership Chairperson Jonathan Ahlbrand by email at membership@lansingsailing.org.

It's the second Wednesday Lansing sailor gathering at Spagnoulas on December 13th.

Come at 6:30 and enjoy come comaraderie along with the pasta special or other meal of your choosing. Adult beverages are available as usual. Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend.

Mike Moody is back from BloKarting treks to New Zealand and the southwest coast of England - and we'll hear a little about that as well as a couple of interesting racing rules issues the BloKarting group is trying to resolve as they adapt from water to land (See accompanying article).

There will also be a little discussion about possible changes to the LSC Clubhouse. Come and offer your ideas and opinion.

Our quizmaster should be in fine form too - we don't want to get too rusty waiting for the ice to melt and docks to go in.

On top of all this, it is a great group of people to share an evening with. Come and join in the fun.

BloKarters Look at Racing Rules

Here is a draft of " Fundamental Blokarting Rules". Suggestions are welcome. Send them to Mike Moody.

1. Safety - Helping those in Danger A Competitor shall give all possible help to any person in danger.

2. Fair Sailing A Competitor shall compete in compliance with recognized principles of sportsmanship and fair play. A competitor may be penalized under this rule only if it is clearly established that these principles have been violated.

3. Acceptance of these rules and the equipment rules of Blokarting By participating in a race conducted under the BAI rules, each competitor agrees:
a. to be governed by these rules;
b. to accept the penalties imposed and other action taken under the rules.
c. With respect to such determination, not to resort to any court or other tribunal not provided for in the rules

4. Decision to race The responsibility to for a competitor’s decision to participate ,or continue, in a race in which eligible to race is his/hers alone. Section ii - When Blokarts Meet

5. On opposite tacks When Blokarts are on opposite tacks, a port tack Blokart shall keep clear of a starboard tack Blokart.

6. On the same tack, overlapped When Blokarts are on the same tack and overlapped, a windward Blokart shall keep clear of a leeward Blokart

7. On the same tack, not overlapped When Blokarts are on the same tack and not overlapped, a Blokart clear behind shall keep clear of a Blokart that is clear ahead.

8. While tacking After a Blokart passes head to wind, it shall keep clear of other Blokarts until it is on its new proper course. If two Blokarts are tacking at the same time, the Blokart on the left shall keep clear of the Blokart on the right. Section iii – General Limitations

9. Avoiding contact A Blokart shall avoid contact with another Blokart if reasonably possible. However, a right of way Blokart
a. need not act to avoid contact until it is clear that the other blokart is not keeping clear, and
b. shall not be penalized under this rule unless there is contact that causes damage or injury.

10. Acquiring right of way When a Blokart acquires right of way, it shall initially give the other blokart room to keep clear, unless it acquires right of way because of the others actions.

11. Changing course When a right of way Blokart changes course, it shall give the other room to keep clear.

At Marks and Obstructions

12. At a mark or obstruction - overlapped When Blokarts are about to pass a mark or obstruction a Blokart that has an inside overlap may hail “room” and pass the mark or obstruction in a sportsman like manner taking no more room that is necessary to pass the mark or obstruction safely, Any Blokart overlapped on the outside shall give the inside Blokart room to do so. After passing the mark or obstruction this rule ceases to apply, however, the right of way blokart kart must give the other room to keep clear.

13. At an obstruction – not overlapped When a faster blokart approaches a slower Blokart within 20 metres of a mark or obstruction it shall pass only on the outside, if in doing so the Blokart establishes an inside overlap for the next mark or obstruction it shall be entitled to room to pass the obstruction as per rule 12.

Sections to be Developed
