There was some outstanding sailing Sunday as five Lightning crews came out to enjoy plenty of wind. Blowing generally from the south at 10-15 mph, sailors also found the usual 20 to 30 degree oscillations on a race course well set by the Race Committee.
The first two races saw very tight finishes. In race one, "Wind Dancer" led at the first mark and held on to win by the narrowest of margins as "Moody's Booty" came up fast on the final downwind. Taking the air of "Wind Dancer", the "Booty" eventually drew alongside and it was neck and neck in the final yards to the finish.
The finish of race two was almost a carbon copy of the first race, with "Moody's Booty" coming up on "Wind Dancer" to take her air on the final leg. Gybing to the finish, "Wind Dancer" couldn't get her spinnaker going and watched as Mike Moody, Tim Potter and Scott Watkins" roared past for the win.
"Unidentified Flying Pigasus" led through the first two legs of the final race with Blaine Severin at the helm, son Geoff in the front and Tom Deits in the middle. However, "UFP" struggled in her leeward rounding giving "Wind Dancer" the opportunity to get inside. Pat Dolan, Bob Miller and Gil Chesbro went on to extend their lead and "Wind Dancer" won the final handily.
