There was some outstanding sailing Sunday as five Lightning crews came out to enjoy plenty of wind. Blowing generally from the south at 10-15 mph, sailors also found the usual 20 to 30 degree oscillations on a race course well set by the Race Committee.

The first two races saw very tight finishes. In race one, "Wind Dancer" led at the first mark and held on to win by the narrowest of margins as "Moody's Booty" came up fast on the final downwind. Taking the air of "Wind Dancer", the "Booty" eventually drew alongside and it was neck and neck in the final yards to the finish.

The finish of race two was almost a carbon copy of the first race, with "Moody's Booty" coming up on "Wind Dancer" to take her air on the final leg. Gybing to the finish, "Wind Dancer" couldn't get her spinnaker going and watched as Mike Moody, Tim Potter and Scott Watkins" roared past for the win.

"Unidentified Flying Pigasus" led through the first two legs of the final race with Blaine Severin at the helm, son Geoff in the front and Tom Deits in the middle. However, "UFP" struggled in her leeward rounding giving "Wind Dancer" the opportunity to get inside. Pat Dolan, Bob Miller and Gil Chesbro went on to extend their lead and "Wind Dancer" won the final handily.

Sandy Bryson Sells Sunfish to Fishbeck

Sandy Bryson has made arrangements to sell his Sunfish to John Fishbeck. Perhaps we will be listing John's Sunfish for sale soon.

Sandy also made a generous donation of some extra Sunfish equipment to the Lansing Sailing Club for use with our Club Sunfish. The extra sail and centerboard are very much appreciated.

    Thanks very much Sandy.

    Koster-Jost-Ahlbrand Conquer Devils

Jonathan Ahlbrand captured Larry Koster and
    Michael-Soloman Jost at Devils Lake

Larry Koster, Michael-Soloman Jost and Jonathan Ahlbrand had a fun weekend of sailing at Devils Lake. Eight Lightnings and twenty Sunfish participated in the regatta. "This was one of my best finishes at an out of town regatta," said Larry who finished in a tie for fifth. Larry reports that the Lightnings sailed 7 races with a throwout, 3 races Saturday afternoon and 4 Sunday morning.

Dave Laidlaw on Devils Lake won the Lightning Regatta with Jim Davis of North Cape second.

    Lightnings for Sale

Bob Mather is a Pontiac Yacht Club member who provides a brokerage service for people who want to sell their Lightnings.

He currently has two boats available. Lightning 14126 is for sale at $5,500 and number 14464 for $6,800. Both boats are race equipped and come with two sets of sails.

This may be a great opportunity for someone to get into Lightning racing with the Lansing Sailing Club. Contact Bob by email at bjsailing@aol.com or by phone at 734-427-3198.
