Wind Surprises - Four Races Easily Sailed |
|
|||||
We have seen an unusual pattern in the wind for Wednesday evening racing on Lake Lansing recently. Usually the wind moderates in the evening and the last several races are often shortened to get them in. In the last month or so the lake has been pretty flat as sailors arrive and it is with some reluctance that they rig and head out to the race course. However, the pattern has been reversed and the wind builds during the evening. Wednesday, the Lasers and Sunfish started out with a short windward-leeward course, one time around. The last two races were Olympic courses in hiking conditions. In the Laser Fleet, Mike Moody and Doug Carlson each had two wins and two second place finishes. Pat Dolan had three thirds and Bob Miller the other third. Jamie Rasmussen won the initial Sunfish race and was runner-up to Dennis (the "Pirate") Dudley in the final three races. As the season comes down to the final two evenings of Wednesday racing, there are a number of undecided spots for season trophies in both fleets. There are also a number of sailors who can still get the minimum number of races in to qualify for a season trophy. Remember, the more boats at the line, the more points that are at stake and the greater the potential for changes in the standings. Come out and sail. Detailed results and standings can be found soon through links on the "Racing" page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org. |
