Siegle, Carlson and Moody Sail to Laser Wins

Labor Day Picnic
September 4

  • August 13 - Two Volunteers Needed
  • August 20 - Two Volunteers Needed

  • Laser sailors Carlson, Messerschmidt and Fletcher

George Siegle got off to a fast boat end start at the beginning of the evening in Wednesday racing. As the wind shifted right, George was on the inside and established a lead that no one could effectively challenge. George went on to another top three finish in the third race with a second.

In Race two, Doug Carlson got the first of his two wins for the evening, improving on his second in the first race. Doug then fell to third in the penultimate race before going out on top in the final race.

Mike Moody sailed very consistently, scoring a win in the third race and finishing in the third spot in each of the other competitions.

Olav Messerschmidt picked up second place finishes in the second and fourth races - but picked up weeds in the third as the fleet said good-bye.

In all eight Laser sailors competed on an evening that saw light and variable wind - generally from the South. Detailed results and standings can be found soon through links on the "Racing" page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Junior Sailors in Next to Last Race Day

    Mark rounding problems brewing

Six Junior Sailors came out to race Tuesday in their next to last evening of racing for 2006. The improvements each of these sailors are making are exciting to watch.

Thomas Jost's mother took lots of great pictures of the sailing - many have excellent instructional value.

A web page is being prepared using these pictures and should be posted within a day or two on the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

An extra year of experience for Cody Eggenberger, Matt Hurth and Doug Crawford is showing as these three are putting good results on the scoresheet. The first year sailors are also building skills and confidence each week they sail.

Austin getting the main sheet unhooked from the mark

Austin Holden and Matt Hurth provided some comic relief for the group as their main sheets snagged marks. Austin pulled his centerboard all the way up in an effort to avoid catching the anchor line and it went overboard to add to the fun. Austin was up to the task however, retrieving the centerboard while holding on to the mainsheet so the boat wouldn't sail away - then untangling it from the mark.

All Junior Sailors are invited to come out for the final day of sailing and racing next Tuesday. Racing will be followed by an awards ceremony at the LSC pavillion.

Eddie Fletcher Wins all Sunfish Races

Eddie Fletcher getting ready to power up before a start with Michael-Soloman Jost at the pin end of the line and Dennis Dudley heading for a good starting spot.

The Sunfish fleet found three sailors coming out to enjoy a pleasant evening on the water.

The results of each race were identical. Eddie Fletcher was the winner each time, followed by Dennis Dudley and Michael-Soloman Jost.

Detailed results of all the race dates and standings can be found soon through links on the "Racing" page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

    Crawfords Purchase Laser

    Doug sailing the Crawford Laser

No sooner had the Crawford family placed an add indicating they were interested in purchasing a Laser when a call came concerning one that was for sale.

Now the Crawfords have a Laser. Doug Crawford raced it Tuesday during the Junior Racing and must have been inspired as he was first around the course several times.
