Moody, Fletcher and Dolan each Win a Race Sunday

Moonlight Sail
August 4

  • July 30 - Two Volunteers Needed
  • August 6 - Two Volunteers Needed

  • "Wind Dancer" has rounded and "Bo Jangles" sets up to be inside Splash at the mark

Lightning fleet racing continues to be very competitive . In Sunday racing, Mike Moody, Jim Fletcher and Pat Dolan each claimed a victory.

Mike Moody and crew sailed further right than other boats on the first leg, and jumped from the middle of the fleet into a commanding lead they never relinquished. Jamie Rasmussen and Jason Grimes were aboard "Moody's Booty" with Mike.

In the second race. Jim Fletcher came from third place on the final leg to win. Sailing with Eddie Fletcher, just back from Europe, and Tim Potter, Jim split from the lead boats by breaking to leeward. There he found more wind in the final several hundred yards to just nip the "Wind Dancer" and "Bo Jangles" teams at the end.

Race three found the "Wind Dancer" crew of Michael-Soloman Jost, Gil Chesbro and Pat Dolan jumping into a quick lead. They kept extending their lead in each of the six legs and won handily.

Merrick Hurlbutt and the "Bo Jangles" crew had pulled into the lead in race two, but ripped their spinnaker during a gybe set and lost some ground. Still, they sailed solidly to gain two thirds and a second.

Susanna Tellschow sailed with Doug Crawford and Stephen Wagner for the first time aboard "Oh m". Although posting three fifth place finishes, they had good starts and did a lot of things right.

Troup 175 Completes Work on Badges

The girls pose before going on the water

A group of Girl Scouts have been coming to the Lansing Sailing Club over the past several weeks to work on their Water Fun and Small Craft badges. They wrapped up their merit badge work last Thursday while sailing in Lightnings.

"Thank you for teaching us about sailing," the girls said in a nice thank you note. "We really liked the water fun day. The sailing was fun, and we think we're going to do it again."

Many thanks to Pat Dolan, Bob Miller, Mike Moody, Susanna Tellschow and Stephen Wagner for all their help to make this activity such a success.

    Moonlight Sail Coming August 4

A full moon makes Moonlight Sails special

Plan now to join your sailing friends on Friday evening, August 4th for the last Moonlight Sail of 2006. Invite your fspouse or significant other as well as some friends and plan to have a wonderful evening.

The plan, as usual, is for everyone to show up at 8 pm with a small dessert to share. LSC provides soft drinks, but sailors should bring their own adult beverages. After enjoying dessert, we'll go on the water to enjoy moonlight reflecting on the water, a sky full of stars and some good company. Don't worry about not having a boat to sail on. There will be plenty of room on someone's Lightning.
