  • Bob Miller racing earlier this summer

At the top of the Laser fleet racing Wednesday there were no surprises. Doug Carlson won all the races and Mike Moody was second each time. However, there the consistency stoped.

Susanna Tellschow had a very good evening of sailing with 3-5-3-9 finishes. It is nice to see her back on the water and doing well after a longer than expected recovery period from being burried in brick with her friend Stephen Wagner when a car came through the wall of Stephen's apartment.

Bob Miller also had an outstanding evening as he went 4-4-9-3. Cole Baar took the remaining third place with a 8-3-4-6 night on the water.

There were eleven lasers, and on this Wednesday evening, every sailor but one scored at least one 6th place finish or better.

On the Sunfish side of things, Dennis Dudley won the first race, but then Neil Harrison took over and beat everyone to the finish line in the last three races. Neil had a second in the first race and Dennis was second in the last three races.

John Quensen makes the newspaper this week with four third place finishes.

    Final Preparation for Mackinac Race

A Laura LEE crew member fixes a problem with the boot

Doug Carlson and Pat Dolan are finishing up their packing and final preparations for this year's Port Huron to Mackinac Race that begins this Saturday.

Pat sailed Wednesday in Port Huron aboard Laura LEE as the crew did some final shakedown work. Of course, short round the buoys racing is different that distance racing, but Wednesday the crew worked on boat speed and sorted out issues relating to launching the assymetrical spinnaker.

Pine Lake Traditional Small Craft Pictures

    Some of the "Traditional" craft

LSC members Gil Chesbro and Sandy Bryson are both members of an organization that focuses on the building of "traditional" water craft - wooden boats for the rest of us.

On June 24th, they held an outing at the Lansing Sailing Club and made examples of their craftsmanship available for other members and the general public to marvel at.

More pictures and information are available on the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org - including who to contact if you want to get involved.

Junior Sailors Visit County Park - Moody Sails on his Head?

Junior Sailors head back to LSC from County Park

Our Junior Sailors achieved an important goal Tuesday evening - rigging, launching and sailing their boats to the County Park and back.

While at the County Park, they stopped long enough to visit the Cone Zone - and hear a challenge from Coach Mike Moody. "If Cody can use the 'Laser Propulsion System' to get through the "no wind" zone near the club to the beach," said Moody, "I'll sail my laser on my head".

    Moody demos "Laser Propulsion System"

Did Cody Eggenberger, who was also sailing a Laser, lean the "Laser Propulsion System"? Did Cody make it to shore using the system? Did Coach Moody have to "sail on his head"? For the answers, check out the picture story on the Lansing Sailing Club web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Next Tuesday, the Junior Sailors begin some low key racing, which continues every Tuesday evening through mid-August when their accomplishments are recognized at an awards ceremony.
