Severin Crew Posts Two First Place Finishes

Junior Sailing Starts Tuesday, June 13

Be a Tourist Make-Up is Saturday, June 17

Summer Sailstice is June 17-18

  • June 18 - Two Volunteers Needed
  • June 25 - Two Volunteers Needed

  • The "Pigs" crew earlier this year

Olav Messerschmidt and Dave MacKenzie served on Race Committee Sunday - and did a great job of coping with highly variable wind conditions. The score sheet shows "Wind Speed: 0-10" and "Wind Direction: All except SE". And the sailors can attest to the huge wind shifts those notations suggest.

Blaine Severin did the best job of solving the wind puzzle and ended up with a third and two first place finishes. Julie Pierce and Tom Deits crewed on "Unidentified Flying Pigasus" and they had the boat going fast.

Neil Harrison, Alanna Harvey and John Quensen started slowly with a last place finish in the first race. However, they certainly found their groove after that and were third, then second in the final race.

Jim Fletcher sailed with two new (to him) crew: Bob Mill and Brian Ferguson. They came from behind in the first race and passed two boats on the final leg of the first race to finish second.

Susanna Tellschow sailed with Jamie Rasmussen and Leif Alton. They had a very good final race and ended up with a third place finish.

"Wind Dancer" was first in the initial race of the day with Pat Dolan driving. Then Chris Miller took the helm and finished a solid second. Gil Chesbro was the third person in the boat.

Moody and Carlson Drift on Gull Lake

Doug Carlson and Mike Moody went to Gull Lake last weekend to participate in the Great Lakes Laser Championship. Doug reported that 78 boats were on the starting line and that was a great turnout. However, they were only able to get three races in over the two days because the winds were so light and variable.

    Laser and Trailer for Sale

Darren Bowling writes to tell us he has a 2003 Laser Pro for sale. With too many hobbies, Darren just hasn't had time to sail - so the boat has only been sailed three times.

Darren says "the boat is very well-equipped (Pro Model), although it's never been raced. The boat comes with both hull covers and deck covers that came with the boat when new. The boat also comes with some really nice blade bags. The boat is absolutely perfect - as perfect as a "used" boat can be."

"I also have a laser specific "kitty hawk" trailer," continues Darren, "that I would prefer to sell to the person who buys the boat - but I will consider selling them separately. The trailer is a 2004, and is the galvanized model that sells for around $600."

Darren is asking $4,000 for the boat, and $400 for the trailer - but would probably be willing to sell both to the same buyer at a "discount" to save the hassle of two transactions. He also has photos he can email if desired.
