Docks Out is Next Saturday

Members recently received assignments for Docks Out next Saturday from 9 until noon. A copy is also in the Member's Only area of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Members who have a conflict should contact Wayne Loescher for an alternate assignment. There are a number of tasks that will need to be done before Saturday as well as tasks needing attention after Docks Out.

"Oh m" Goes on Lift

Susanna Tellschow puts"Oh m" on lift

Although it is late in the season, "Oh m" was put on her lift last week by Susanna Tellschow. Ron and Jane Marshall generously donated"Oh m" to the Lansing Sailing Club for use by members as a Club Boat, and having it on a lift will mean that members will be able to use the boat even if they don't have a trailer hitch on their vehicle.

A lot has been learned by getting "Oh m" on the lift. As a result, we have better ideas on how to orient the lift to the dock, additional equipment needed to be able to access the boat while on a lift, details on how to tie off the cover, and more. When the Club opens in the Spring, there will be orientation sessions for members wanting to use "Oh m".

Moody Two Wins - Dolan One Win to Finish Season

Moody turns leeward mark

On a beautiful fall day, six Lightning crews took to the water to wrap up the 2005 fleet racing season. Mike Moody picked up where he left off last week - adding two more wins to build a five race streak.

In each of the first two races, Mike, Jamie Rasmussen and Ken Knight found a wind shift late in the first leg to take charge. They extended with each succeeding leg and won both handily.

In the third race, Pat Dolan and Bob Miller found the wind shift toward the end of the first leg and stayed in phase to keep building their lead. Dolan's "Wind Dancer" finished second in the first two races and "Moody's Booty took second in the final race.

Merrick Hurlbutt and Paul Davis set good courses as Race Committee in this season finale - taking the extra time necessary to assure a fair start when the Committee Boat anchor wasn't holding. Race Committees all season have done an outstanding job - and today was no exception. Thanks to all of you. The sailors really appreciate your work.

Tellschow, LeFevre and Harrison Spins Flying

Blaine Severin, Julie Pierce and Tom Deits sailed "Unidentified Flying Pigasus" solidly, finishing third twice - then fourth when they lost their jib car track.

Neil Harrison, John LeFevre and Susanna Tellschow had some good sailing too. Neil, with Alanna Harvey and John Quensen aboard, put a fourth, sixth and third in the books.

"Sail Fevre" had a crew of John LeFevre, Leif Alton and Michael-Salomon Jost. They struggled to a sixth in the first race, but then finished fourth and fifth in the last two races.

Susanna Tellschow had junior sailor Doug Crawford in the front of the boat and veteran Jim Fletcher in the middle. Even with a crew that hadn't sailed together, they acquitted themselves well with particularly good spinnaker work. Their two fifths and a sixth don't represent the real accomplishment Susanna has achieved as she has become a solid sailor in the Lightning fleet in her first year of skippering this boat.

"Wind Dancer" Wins Season Championships

"Wind Dancer" in a gust Sunday

Pat Dolan and his "Wind Dancer" team have won the Lightning Season Championship for the third year in a row. They also won the "Half Season" Championship.

Team members in 2005 include Gil Chesbro, Bob Miller, Chris Miller and Susanna Tellschow. In addition, Cody Eggenberger, Doug Crawford, Jamie Rasmussen and John LeFevre sailed on "Wind Dancer" during the season.

The team won forty-three of the sixty races they sailed during the course of the season.

Before putting the boat away for the year, several members of the team plan to travel to Nashville, Tennessee in early November to participate in the "Bluenose" regatta.

Unofficial results show Mike Moody finishing the season in second place, Blaine Severin in third, Merrick Hurlbutt in fourth, John LeFevre in fifth, Neil Harrison in sixth and Larry Koster in seventh.
