Four Laser sailors work upwind in Wednesday action |
With one week of racing to go in the season, nine Laser sailors have already qualified for season awards - having sailed at least 25 races (50% of the expected number of races to be held this season). Two other Laser sailors have the potential to qualify if they race on the final day next Wednesday.
In tonight's action, Mike Moody posted two first place finishes and a second to close the gap on Doug Carlson's season lead. Doug had one first and a second among his four finishes. The other first place finish of the evening was scored by Olav Messerschmidt who ended his season on a high note (he can't sail on the final night next Wednesday). Olav added a second, third and fifth in his other races.
Rounding out the top three scoring for the evening was Pat Dolan's second in the final contest and George Siegle's two third place finishes. Sailing a Laser for the first time was Jim Fletcher. He certainly figured out how to sail the boat quickly because he posted a third among his finishes. In all, nine Lasers were at the line.

Junior Sailors Have Final Race Outing Last Tuesday |
Junior Sailors and Coaches at Tuesday's finale |
Four exciting races followed by a marshmallow roast brought an official end to this year's Junior Sailing Program Tuesday.
This group of Junior Sailors should be very proud of themselves. Most of them had not sailed before this summer. Not only did they all learn to sail - but eleven of them went on to participate in the racing part of the program and have become even better sailors.
Each of the Juniors won at least one race. Faith Krogulecki won the most races (5). Grant Messerschmidt had the most second place finishes (5). Doug Crawford achieved the best handicap rating possible (a 10) on two occasions. Cody Eggenberger ended up with the best handicap rating at the end of the season (9). Chris Miller was the most improved sailor, averaging a fifth place finish on her first night of racing and improving each week to go 2-1-1-2 on the final evening of racing. Greg Scovill came to join the program in mid-July, a month after most of the others had started, and has been regularly challenging the top sailors. In all, sixteen Junior Sailors participated in this year's program at one point or another.
