Lightnings Come to Windward Mark Sunday

Light air did not deter Lightning crews from participating in fleet racing Sunday. The Race Committee shortened the course to two legs for the last two races and successfully concluded three races.
"Wind Dancer" had developed a good sized lead in the first race, only to run into a wind hole while the other boats came on strong. "UFP" soared into the lead, but "Wind Dancer" got its spinnaker going in the light air and gybed to port and went across the stern of "UFP" - subsequently coming back on starboard at a hot angle. At the end, "Wind Dancer" prevailed, but there was a very close finish between three boats for the second spot. Neil Harrison got the edge, followed closely by John LeFevre, then Blaine Severin.
In the second race, "Wind Dancer" again opened a lead, but "UFP" caught up at the windward mark and sailed over "Dancer" as they tried to fill their spinnaker on too close a reach. Part way down the leg however, an opportunity for "Wind Dancer" to set her spinnaker developed and they were able to nip "UFP" by a couple of inches at the finish. "Sail Fevre" was third.
The third race saw a wind shift at the start that turned the race into two reaches.
Next is the "Crew Takes the Helm" race on Thursday. Skippers and Crews change roles.
