Race Committee Volunteers Needed

Just a few of our Race Committee spots need to be filled. We critically need two volunteers for  Sunday, July 24. In addition, we can use a third person for any Race Committee that only has two signed up.

If you are a member needing to make up a duty obligation - or just want to do your sailing friends a special favor - please contact Vice Commodore Pat Dolan. Race Committee listings are found through a link on the Member Only page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org. Login and password info are at the top of the Member Only page.

Marshall Selling "Oh m"

Marshall's "Oh m" in a 2004 race

Ron Marshall has decided to sell his Lightning, a 1990 Mueller, hull number 14447, all white with racing stripe.

Marshall's have shown us repeatedly on the race course that this is a fast boat. It is in excellent condition with two mains and jibs, one spinnaker (used once) and a stainless steel board. The boat has been dry sailed and stored inside each winter. It also comes with a blue Rook cover (like new); with trailer in good shape.

Ron is asking $4,000. Click on the picture or go to the Classifieds page of the LSC web site for information on how to contact Ron.

Moonlight Sail Friday, July 22 - Small Boat Clinic Saturday, July 23

Mark these key dates on your calendar. Bring some guests along to go moonlight sailing/cruising on Friday, July 22nd. As usual, we start with dessert at 8 pm, followed by the sail/cruise to watch the moonrise. Moonrise will be at 10:33 according to the U.S. Naval Observatory.

Then on Saturday morning, July 23rd, there will be a small boat clinic. Mike Moody will oversee the clinic and will be including videos and demonstrations with on-water drills to give all the participants an opportunity to build or hone their boat handling skills along with knowledge of strategies, tactics and the rules of the road. The only cost involved is to buy lunch. The clinic starts at 9 am and will run thru 5 pm.

Chesbro, Fishbeck and Fletcher (Maribeth) Win Sunfish Races

Maribeth Fletcher shows her stuff in a picture from earlier this year

Seven Sunfish sailors were on the water Wednesday as the wind blew solidly for three and a fraction races. Gil Chesbro took the first race with John Fishbeck winning the next two.

As the last race of the evening started, the wind began to die although sailors found small and light puffs to get around the race course. Maribeth Fletcher won the final race.

Complete results and standings can be found on the racing page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Tellschow and Hamilton Make Laser Debuts

Anna Hamilton practicing her Laser sailing last week

Susanna Tellschow and Anna Hamilton each borrowed a Laser Wednesday evening to get a race or two under her belt before participating in this Saturday's event at Orchard Lake (see accompanying article). Both showed flashes of brilliance during their short stints on the water. Susanna was in third place for most of the first race until her traveler fairlead broke. When she got back on the water, she scored a fifth place finish in the last race. For Anna, it was her first Wednesday racing at the helm of a single-hander - and, after overcoming some reticence to mix it up at the starting line as a new sailor, she showed she can sail the boat fast.

Joel Shapiro continues his hot streak, winning the first race and adding two seconds and a third place finish. As usual, Mike Moody was solid with two wins to go with a second and a third. Olav Messerschmidt won the final race of the evening and turned in a second in another race. Pat Dolan finished third twice to round out the top three finishers in each race. Eleven Lasers were on the water.

Complete results and standings can be found on the racing page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.
