Hurlbutt Takes Second By an Eyelash |

It was an exciting finish for second place in Race Two Sunday between Merrick Hurlbutt and Mike Moody. The camera caught Merrick slightly behind coming to the finish, but sailing a hot angle. Meanwhile, the spinnaker on "Moody's Booty" takes this inopportune (if you are on "Booty") moment to collapse.
With good speed, Hurlbutt dives deep at the finish and his momentum carries him in just barely ahead of Moody - also caught on camera.
Moody, sailing with Lisa Winters and Steve Jackson, had taken the first race, winning by a substantial margin after sailing an excellent first leg, staying in phase and finding wind.
Race two and three found the "Wind Dancer" crew of Bob Miller, Gil Chesbro and Pat Dolan at the top of their game and winning both events.

The Lightning Fleet races this coming Thursday (July 7) instead of next Sunday. Skippers and Crew please take note.
The reason for this schedule is to permit participation of Lightning sailors in the Michigan District Championship to be held next weekend at North Cape Yacht Club on Lake Erie. |
