Junior Sailing Program Starts Next Tuesday

LSC's Junior Sailing program starts next Tuesday. Juniors will be sailing every Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm thru mid-July - then participating in a special fun regatta event at Orchard Lake Country Club on Saturday July 16.

This is a great opportunity for young people to learn how to sail - or to improve their sailing skills. Participants should be at least age 11. Daughters and sons of member families participate free of charge. Non-member families will need to become Associate Members ($135) in order for their sons or daughters to participate. Contact Pat Dolan (email: patrick@dolan.name - phone: 517-214-6568) for more information.

Lots of Sails on Lake Lansing Yesterday

Olav Messerschmidt at last year's Spartan Singles

Ten Lasers and eight Sunfish sailors came out to enjoy a beautiful evening on Lake Lansing. The wind cooperated and four modified olympic course races were completed by each fleet.

Leading the Sunfish sailors was Dave Vietti. Despite a DSQ in the last race, Dave posted a first and two seconds to show the way. Gil Chesbro, Scott Fulbright and Jim Fletcher also came away with wins.

On the Laser side, Olav Messerschmidt and Doug Carlson had two first place finishes each. George Siegle had a good night with a second and three thirds. Mike Moody went 4-2-2-4.

Seven of the eight Sunfish sailors finished in the top half of the fleet in at least one race. Eight of the ten Laser sailors finished in the top half of the fleet in at least one race. Obviously this is going to be a year of very close competition on the water.

Complete results and season standings can be found through a link on the "Racing" page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Memorial Day Great Fun at LSC

The Bananas Team picks up a lucky balloon

There was a good turn out for the Memorial Day picnic and activity day at LSC. Jim and Maribeth Fletcher took charge - and created a memorable holiday event.

In addition to picnicing, there were a number of fun and competitive activities that got everyone involved. Bocce Ball, Volleyball, Euchre and chasing balloons across Lake Lansing were a big hit.

Thanks Jim and Maribeth. Check out the picture story on the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.
