First Off-Season Sailor Meeting this Wednesday

Sailing season may be over on Lake Lansing - but sailors still gather on the second wednesday of the month to enjoy some comeraderie, participate in the "Rules Quiz" and occasionally hear from a guest speaker.

The first of this season's informal gatherings will be this Wednesday, November 10th at Spagnoula's beginning at 7 pm. Come and enjoy the pasta special, other Spags offerings - or just some liquid refreshment.

Spagnoula's is located on the north side of Grand River east of Okemos between Cornell Road and Meridian Road.

Want to Serve on the LSC Board?

Commodore Mike is looking for candidates

Each year at their Annual Meeting, Lansing Sailing Club members elect their Board of Directors. Positions to be elected this year are:
  Commodore
  Vice-Commodore
  Rear-Commodore
  Secretary
  Treasurer
  Director of Club Boats
  Director of Facilities
Member at Large (2 year term)

Anyone interested in getting involved by running for the Board should contact Commodore Mike Moody as soon as possible. Associate members are eligible for election to Member at Large positions.

Some of the current Board members are running for re-election, but Treasurer Lori Katz is moving soon and won't be able to continue her involvement. Also, Stacy Kotecki's involvement in other activities prevents her from running for another term as an At Large Member.

MSU Sailing Team 3rd at Area East - Goes on to Timmie Angston Memorial Championship

The MSU Sailing Team placed third over the weekend in the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association's east area qualifier at Hope College. This means they will go on to race in the 58th Timmie Angston Memorial to be held at the Chicago Yacht Club on November 26-28. The top four teams from the MCSA's east and west areas make up the eight teams which sail at "Timmies".

For Michigan State, Rob Linden and Casey Ray skippered the "A" division boat with Meghan Walter crewing. They finished fifth in their division, going 3-3-5-7-2-3-7-8-3-5-7 and 53 points. The "B" division boat was sailed by Mary Vorel with Steve Griffith crewing. Mary and Steve finished second in their division with 45 points from 5-4-3-1-6-3-2-2-7-3-9 finishes. Michigan won the event with 49 points. Miami was second with 93 points. Michigan State's 98 points put them in third while Ohio University became the fourth qualifier with 107 points.

Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue, Notre Dame, Western Michigan, Hope and Denison rounded out the other Area East teams that competed in this event.

LSC Team Goes to Bluenose

"Wind Dancer" crew in action at windward mark

Pat Dolan, Mike Moody and Susanna Tellschow took "Wind Dancer" to Nashville, Tennessee last weekend for their annual "Bluenose" Regatta. Contrary to several past years, there was wind for this Regatta - although the sailors found it challenging to anticipate velocity and shifts.

The highlight of the regatta for this LSC team was a second place finish in one of the races. Thirty-eight boats participated. "Wind Dancer" finished 18th. The Regatta was won by Tom Allen, Jr. of the Allen Boat Company, one of the manufacturers of Lightning Sailboats.

Results, history of past regattas, pictures and more for the "Bluenose" can be found on the web at http://hiyc.org/bluenose.html.
