Marshall, Harrison and Hill Share First Place Finishes

"Oh m" heads upwind in racing earlier this year

On a day with very light and difficult wind conditions, Ron Marshall, Neil Harrison and Bob Hill were each successful in bringing home a first place finish. Ron won the first race, Neil the middle race and Bob Hill the final race of the day.

Sailing "Oh m", Ron and Jane Marshall teamed with Bob Hill - with Ron sailing the first race and Bob skippering the second and third race. Bob had a second in race two to go with his win in race three.

Alanna Harvey and John Quensen sailed with Neil Harrison to bring home a first place finish in the second race of the day while scoring a second place finish in the other races..

Detailed results and standings are available through links on the Racing page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

NOTE: Lightning sailors are reminded that next Sunday's fleet racing begins an hour later than usual to facilitate LSC member assistance with the Spartan Singles Regatta.

Moody Leads LSC Contingent at Whitecap Regatta

"Wind Dancer" skipper Pat Dolan took a brief moment to enjoy the sight of 31 spinnakers astern on the way to finishing second

Four Lansing Lightnings made the trip to the Pontiac Yacht Club on Cass Lake to participate in the annual Whitecap Regatta. Mike Moody, sailing with Lisa winters and Helio Vogel, were the highest placing LSC boat, finishing in 17th place out of thirty-three boats. More pictures are on the LSC Web Site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Pat Dolan, Susanna Tellshow and Bob Miller sailed "Wind Dancer" in the Regatta and had a second place finish in race three and an eleventh place finish in race two. In the fourth and final race, Both "Wind Dancer" and "Moody's Booty" arrived at the first windward mark at the same time, with only two other boats ahead of them. However, the downwind was disasterous for "Wind Dancer", losing almost the entire fleet. The "Booty" also dropped back a bit, but had a solid race and a good finishing position. These successful legs are a bright spot for LSC sailors who seldom see more than six to eight boats on the starting line and don't have an opportunity to experience much large fleet racing.

John LeFevre took "Sail Fevre" and was ably assisted by Merrick Hurbutt and Scott Watkins on Saturday - then by Watkins and Adrianne Tuttle on Sunday. This was John's first away regatta where he drove the boat.

"Unidentified Flying Pigs" was the fourth LSC boat with Blaine Severin, Julie Pierce and Tom Deits aboard. Blaine sailed a lot of road regattas the last several years and was awarded the "Most Improved" skipper by the Michigan Lightning District after the 2003 season.

Spartan Singles this Coming Saturday

Mike Moody leads a group of sailors to the leeward mark in last year's Spartan Singles.

The Spartan Singles Regatta is coming to Lake Lansing this coming Saturday (September 18th) - bringing collegiate sailors and non-collegiate sailors together. This regatta is sailed in Lasers and all Laser sailors, including junior sailors who have Lasers, are invited to participate. It is sponsored jointly by the MSU Sailing Club and the Lansing Sailing Club.

The main purpose of the regatta is to have a great regatta while creating conditions similar to those the collegiate sailors will encounter when they sail their midwest single-handed championship which is scheduled shortly after Spartan Singles. This means lots of boats at the line and good competition.

The Skipper's Meeting will be at 9 am with racing to begin soon thereafter and continue until about 4 pm. For more information go to the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.
