"Moody's Booty" Crew Leads the Way

"Moody's Booty" sails in the race earlier this season

Mike Moody had Anna Hamilton in the front and Doug Carlson int he middle Sunday. Together they made "Moody's Booty" the winner in two of the three races and took second in the other race.

A light and variable west wind came in just as the skipper's meeting was about to start, and held for the remainder of the afternoon - although at times, some boats sat with no wind in their sails while others were sailing well.

Race one found "Moody's Booty" and "Wind Dancer" battling it out for the lead. Then coming to the last windward mark, the "Booty" took the lead and held on to the end. Blaine Severin and crew sailed a terrific final downwind leg to pass "Wind Dancer" and finish second.

"Wind Dancer" took command of the second race early and extended its lead on each leg to wind handily. Mike Moody was second and Blaine Severin's "UFP" third.

Race three began in a nice breeze with Moody and Dolan exchanging the lead position several times. Moody took charge just before the windward mark and sailed on to the leeward mark while the remainder of the boats sat waiting for wind. When the wind filled in for everyone else, it was the "Booty's" time to wait. Soon "Oh m", "Wind Dancer" and "Moody's Booty" were all converging on the windward mark ready to go downhill to the finsh. Mike Moody and crew got around first, but were rolled by Dolan. However, "Wind Dancer" was never able to establish a clear ahead position that enabled them to gybe for the mark. Moody held on for the win. Meanwhile, Ron Marshall had his boat headed for the finish line and nipped "Wind Dancer" for second place.

Phone Working - Club Boats Cleaned

There was more improvement activity at the Club over the weekend. The phone company came out to check on our lack of telephone service and found a mouse (or other pest) had eaten through some wires in a phone box down the road. This resulted in in the Club not having phone service.

However, all is now fixed. The main line is working and the repair technician installed a Network Interface Device next to the power meter. Pat Dolan then ran lines and installed phone jacks in the kitchen and in the Men's Changing Room near the computer. The result is a nice clean look.

The Club took advantage of Anna Hamilton Boat Cleaning and had the Safety Boat and Committee Boat cleaned.

Please Avoid Tying Safety Boat to Committee Boat

Members are reminded that we are making an effort to avoid tying the Safety Boat to the Committee Boat. Wave action causes the boats to bang together with scrapes and dents resulting.

Race Committees should not need to raft these boats together because the Safety Boat should be in constant action. When not moving marks or assisting boats in trouble, the Safety Boat should follow the fleet - staying in position to provide assistance as may be necessary. The Race Committee Handbook contains a page full of suggestions for Safety Boat use. Also, with the new automatic starting horn system, one person on the Committee Boat can handle flags and the other activities necessary for fleet racing.
