4 Fun at LSC |
July
Fourth Sunday . Join in boat building at 8 AM at
the Club - just after we pick up materials (we don't
know until then what materials are to be used). Then we design
and build a boat to race on the sandbar at 1 PM. There are
three races - kids, women and men. There is always a big
spectator fleet and members are welcome to use the new
LSC Committee Boat for this purpose.
A picnic
at 5:00 PM launches the evening activities. LSC will provide
brats, hot dogs, fixins', soft drinks, paper and plastic. Bring
a dish to pass. Then we'll decorate the Committee Boat in anticipation
of the boat parade which begins at 7:45. The evening will be
capped off with a big fireworks display centered just down
the beach from the Club.

LeFevre Gets First Win |
Moody Leads Downwind at Sunset |
John LeFevre got
his first win in LSC Lightning racing Thursday evening. Sailing
very well with solid crew work from Kevin Johnson and Leif
Alton, John sailed hot downwind angles to claim the lead at
the first leeward mark. He then extended on the upwind leg
and finished well in front of the other seven boats in race
2. John also finished in the top three in race 1, claiming
third place.
Pat Dolan, with
Stacy Kotecki and Gil Chesbro sailed "Wind Dancer" to
a win in Race one while "Moody's Booty" with Mike Moody, Ken
Knight and Lisa Winters won the third race. Mike had two second
place finishes in the other races. "Wind Dancer had a fourth
in race two and finished third in the final race.
Larry Koster took
Tom Rasmussen and Tom's son Bruce to crew on "Shibumi".
They finished sixth in race one, but recovered to score a third
in race two. The remaining top
three finish was by "UFP", skippered by Blaine Severin with
Julie Pierce in the front and Wayne Loescher in the middle.
They took second place in the final race and went 4-5-2 on
the evening..
Competition was
very keen with a number of very close finishes. Terry Kleiman
was very complementary of spinnaker trim work by middle crew
Anna Hamilton which enabled them to nip several other boats
at finishes. They finished 7-6-4, improving each race. Neil
Harrison, always proud to sail with daughter Kim who is home
on break from Hope College, and with Alanna Harvey in front,
went 5-7-6 in the three races. Merrick Hurlbutt, distracted
by a beautiful evening on the water, was 8-8-7. Merrick sailed
with Scott Watkins and Adrianne Tuttle.
