Big Big Weekend at LSC

Celebrate July 4th at LSC

Moonlight Sail Friday . Don't forget the Moonlight sail on Friday, July 2nd. Bring a dessert to share at 8:00 PM. There are plenty of boats going on the water about 9:00 for everyone to enjoy the moonrise.

July Fourth Sunday . Join in boat building at 8 AM at the Club - just after we pick up materials (we don't know until then what materials are to be used). Then we design and build a boat to race on the sandbar at 1 PM. There are three races - kids, women and men. There is always a big spectator fleet and members are welcome to use the new LSC Committee Boat for this purpose.

A picnic at 5:00 PM launches the evening activities. LSC will provide brats, hot dogs, fixins', soft drinks, paper and plastic. Bring a dish to pass. Then we'll decorate the Committee Boat in anticipation of the boat parade which begins at 7:45. The evening will be capped off with a big fireworks display centered just down the beach from the Club.

Fishbeck Leads Sunfish Sailors

Fishbeck's Smile Tells the Tale

On another beautiful sailing evening, John Fishbeck sailed his Sunfish to three wins and a second place finish in leading the six Sunfish competitors. Jim Fletcher won the fourth race and added two seconds - going 4-2-2-1.

Neil Harrison went 2-3-5-4 and Maribeth Fletcher 3-4-3-3 to account for all the top three finishes.

Results and standings will be available soon via links on the Racing page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Messerschmidt Hot in New Boat

Olav Had Reasons to Smile

Olav Messerschmidt sailed yesterday's races in his newly acquired Laser - and posted two thirds and two firsts. Not only that, but Olav has sold his grey Laser to Scott Watkins, so it stays in the Club and we have a new member of the Laser Fleet.

Mike Moody and Doug Carlson accounted for the remaining top three finishes. Doug went 1-2-3-3 and Mike 2-1-2-2. In all, nine Laser sailors participated including Bill Wadland who was out for the first time this year. Wayne Loescher and Scott Watkins raced their newly acquired Lasers for the first time.

Results and standings will be available soon via links on the Racing page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Discover Racing Class Coming in July

Members of a recent LSC
class get ready to sail

LSC's "Discover Sailboat Racing" class begins on Monday evening, July 12th and continues for the remaining Monday evenings in July. Please pass this information on to anyone who might be interested in finding out more about sailboat racing.

Although the pace is more relaxed from typical race days at LSC, class members go on the water and serve as crew members to get a real flavor of what racing is like. The class introduces participants to crewing, different kinds of race courses, starting strategy, racing rules and more.

It is a great learning experience. Sign up through Haslett Community Education. More information is on the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org. Just click the "Discover Racing..." button at the upper left of the home page.

Thanks to Race Committees

An article on the LSC web site thanks our Race Committees and tells about some of the things they do to make the racing program run smoothly. Check it out at www.lansingsailing.org.

VHF Radios in Place

VHF radios are now in place at LSC. They are stored in holders at the Club House and plugged into their rechargers when not in use. This way, the batteries are always charged and the radios ready to use.

There are three radios. One each for use on the Committee and Safety Boats, and one for the Club House. We will be using Channel 68 as the primary channel for communication. The radios are very easy to operate, just turn them on, set the channel and adjust volume with the Volume Button to put the radio in listen mode. To talk, press and hold the talk button on the side of the radio.
