Web Site Running Again with Stocking Stuffer Ideas |
The Lansing Sailing Club web site is back in business. As an apology for the temporary interruption, you'll find some ideas for sailing stocking stuffers on the web site at www.lansingsailing.org/page.cfm/216/. Thanks to Mac Spica and Dan Harris for helping to solve site problems. Over the next several months we will be migrating to a new web host - hopefully without causing any of our loyal surfers inconvenience. While the new site is being prepared and tested, the current site will continue to operate. |

MSU Sailors Show Huge Improvement in 2003 |
The Thanksgiving weekend Timme Angsten Memorial Regatta in Chicago showed how much the MSU Sailing Team has improved over the last year. In the 2002 Timme, they placed 17th out of 18 boats. This year however, it was a much different story. At the end of the first day, they were in 6th place. Saturday's results pushed them back to 11th. On Sunday however, the team rebounded to finish 8th including a second place finish in one race by Laura Schmidt (skipper) and Jaime Ziegler (crew) sailing in B Division. Rob Linden and Mary Vorel were the MSU skippers in A Division. Corey Schoenherr and Meghan Walter sailed for MSU as crew. In other MSU sailing news, LSC member Bill Pratt has agreed to serve as advisor to the MSU Sailing Club while LSC members Mike Moody and Pat Dolan were named by the Club as coaches. |

2005 Sloop Championship Coming to Michigan |
| Lansing Sailing Club members have played a key role in bringing the 2005 National Collegiate Sloop Champship to Michigan. Over the last weekend, the MSU Sailing Club, partnering with the Western Michigan University Sailing Team, Gull Lake Yacht Club and Lansing Sailing Club, put forth the winning proposal. The Championship will be held at Gull Lake in late October of 2005. Many Lansing Sailing Club members pledged their Lightnings and powerboats for use in the Champsionship. These members have also pledged to assist with Race Management. Even though the event is two years away, the planning and effort required to make this a success will fill the time. More volunteers will be needed for this event, so let Pat Dolan know if you want to help. |

Lake Frozen |
Your editor awoke today to find Lake Lansing frozen over. It's not thick enough to be on - and may not last. But, it may be one of the earliest dates the lake has frozen. |

Carlson a Local Celeb |
Commodore Mike Moody writes to ask everyone to join in congratulating LSC member Doug Carlson. In the Nov. 24th issue of the State Journal, Doug's picture is on the back page of the Local section (right next to the Deaths and Funerals)! Doug and Mike took advantage of the warm weather and wind the previous Sunday, and got their Blokarts out for some fun! Doug wrote to say that he is still trying to figure out what he was thinking that caused him to make that face - and added "as usual when it is blowing we had a great time and look forward to the next opportunity." Says Mike, "I know Doug has been longing for celebrity status for some time now. His 15 minutes of fame just might move him from the dregs of obscurity right up into the mostly unknown. By the look on his face, it seems he is about to make the final turn for the finish line in the America's Cup of Land Yachting! Stay tuned, as we have ice runners for these mini-land yachts and rumor has it they go even faster on ice. So give Doug a call and wish him all the best on his new status. He rarely has much to do and would probably love someone to talk to! Your look'in good Doug!!!" |

Everyone "Shake a Leg" |
| According to a recent "Scuttlebutt" trivia item, the term "Shake A Leg" originated in Portsmouth, where women would come aboard naval vessels to aid ship morale. Each morning the petty officer would shout for the occupants of hammocks to shake a leg. If the leg was smooth and shapely, the occupant was allowed to sleep in; if the leg was hairy, the officer turned out the hammock for the sailor to swab the deck. Subscriptions to "Scuttlebutt", which comes every weekday by email, are free. Click the Scuttlebutt banner on the bottom of the right hand column of the LSC website home page at www.lansingsailing.org to subscribe. |
