Awards Banquet Huge Success |
Williamston's Brookshire Inn was the site of the Lansing Sailing club's 2003 Awards Banquet and Annual Meeting, held last Friday. Thanks to Stacy Kotecki, the event organizer, it was a hugh success. The largest crowd in recent memory was on hand to recognize the accomplishments of sailors during the past season. Ann Siegle received the Ron Wilson award, recognizing her dedication to sailing. Terry Kleiman was this year's winner of the Corinthian Award for his special leadership and contributions. The Jon C. Stoval Perpetual Peculiar Award, given to a sailor for demonstrating a particularly unique act during the sailing season, was awarded to Jim Fletcher. The Flying Wedge award went to Merrick Hurlbutt. MSU Sailing Club Commodore Corey Schoenherr attended the Banquet with MSU Sailing Team Captain Mary Vorel and thanked the Lansing Sailing Club for all their assistance during the past year. Sunfish awards, presented
by Fleet Captain Alanna Harvey, recognized the following Sunfish sailors: Pat Dolan, Laser Fleet Captain,
showed pictures of the recent "Spartan Singles" event. Noting
that twenty two Laser sailors participated in fleet racing with an average
of ten boats on the starting line, Dolan went on to present the following
awards: Lightning Fleet Captain, George Siegle, emphasized
the importance of crew and singled out the following for special recognition: |

Moody Elected Commodore at Annual Meeting |
Mike Moody is now the Lansing Sailing Club Commodore, elected at the Annual
Meeting last Friday. Mike brings an extensive background of sailing and
leadership to the position. He has served as Vice Commodore during the
past year and has previously served on the Board of Directors in a number
of capacities including Rear Commodore. Mike is one of the top area sailors,
having won both the Laser and Lightning Championships. He also has extensive
leadership experience, serving as Laser District 19 (Michigan) Secretary
and in other capacities. A By-law change, approved at this Annual Meeting, eliminates the positions of Post Secretary and Post Treasurer - but establishes the positions of Director of Club Boats and Director of Facilities. This change divides the responsibilities formerly assigned to the Rear Commodore into three pieces, making the Rear Commodore position much more manageable. Members also adopted a new budget and dues structure for 2004. Dues will increase slightly to $395 for a regular membership with other dues and fees adjusted through an index tied to the regular dues amount. The budget includes provision for acquisition of a new Committee Boat, likely to cost in the $12,000 to $13,000 range, with the purchase to be financed over several years if necessary using the Club's line of credit. The budget also includes other projects including provision for beginning a landscape plan to screen the south property line so we are better neighbors and to begin removal of trees that are problems. |
