Still Time To Register for Awards Banquet

There is just a little over a week away for our Annual Banquet! The response has been overwhelming and the excitement is building. You still have time to join in the fun. Please let Stacy Kotecki know by Saturday, November 15th if you can come and please specify Prime Rib, Chicken Marsala or Lake Superior Whitefish. Contact Stacy Kotecki. Jim Kennedy is helping with the door prizes and he had lots of new ideas. Maybe you will be a winner. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday, November 21st to celebrate another fun year of sailing. Cost is $25 per person. The event starts at 6:30 PM with cocktails (cash bar) and dinner will begin at 7:00. The Brookshire Inn, 205 W. Church St. in Williamston will be the site of this years banquet and meeting.

Report from the Olympic Trials

Note: Pat Dolan and Mike Moody are at the Olympic Trials for the 470s and Lasers in Houston, Texas, and send us this report.
We are spending about 10 days in Houston providing support for some Michigan Laser and 470 sailors who are trying to make the US Sailing Team. The pace has been exhausting, but it has been exciting and we have learned a lot. A couple of Gull Lake sailors, Chad Coberly and Dave Johnson, are competing here in the Men's 470 trials. Rick Rothenbuhler of rosse Pointe and Michael Schreiber of Birmingham are competing in Lasers. Our support role has included collecting weather information; keeping track of wind shifts; checking for wind pressure and current in different parts of the race course; having gear, water, power bars, and equipment available between races; monitoring Race Committee communications; towing boats to and from the race course; and keeping the sailors we are supporting up to date.

We have been fortunate to participate in dailing briefing sessions with the 470 men and women that are conducted by the US Sailing coach. These include video review, weather discussions and tips on sailing technique as well as tactics. More when we return next week.

MSU Sailors Going to Timme Angsten

The MSU Sailing Team qualified for the 57th Annual Timme Angsten Regatta at Chicago Yacht Club by placing 4th overall at Area East last weekend. Mary Vorel and Jaime Ziegler sailed some of the A Division races while Rob Linden and Meghan Walter sailed the remaining A races. They ended up fifth. In the B Division, Laura Schmidt and Corey Schoenherr scored a third place finish. The combined score for the team was a fourth - qualifiying them to sail over Thanksgiving in the Timme Angsten. Great going MSU.

Informal Gathering Tonight at Spags

Tonight (Wednesday, November 12) is the usual second Wednesday gathering for Lansing sailors at Spagnoulas. Join the group from 7 to 9. Enjoy the pasta special and talk sailing.
