Join in Labor Day Festivities at Noon |
Lansing Sailing Club members: don't forget the labor day (September 1st) festivities beginning at noon on with a picnic. Bring a dish to pass. LSC provides hotdogs, brats, soft drinks, paper and plastic. An on-the-water activity follows the picnic lunch, weather permitting. Always a good time. Bring a guest. |

New Member Laura Schmidt Makes Laser Impact |
The newest member of the Lansing Sailing Club showed up for her first racing yesterday evening and scored a second, two thirds and a fifth in a borrowed Laser with eleven boats competing in that class. Laura is a transfer student, now attending MSU and a member of the MSU Sailing Team. She spent the last eighteen months doing a lot of sailing in the US and Europe, competing in her Europe dinghy. Laura has worked with some of the top olympic sailors and it showed in her first Laser sailing on Lake Lansing. She will have her Europe and her Laser at the Club after the Labor Day holiday weekend. Stop by and welcome her. Doug Carlson continued his hold on first place in the season standings with three first place finishes and a second yesterday. Mike Moody had a first and a third in the three races he sailed while Olav Messerschmidt brought his lucky hat and finished the night with two second place finishes. In addition to Laura Schmidt, three other MSU sailors joined in the racing. Matt Palmer fought his way into the top three with a third in race two. Cole Cahill and Corey Schoenherr were the othere MSU competitors. Results and standings are available from the Race Results page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org. |

One More Wednesday for Sunfish Sailors |
There is only one more Wednesday evening of racing in 2003 for Sunfish Sailors - so put September 3 on your calendars and enjoy the fabulous weather we have been sailing in. Meanwhile, eight Sunfish sailors fought it out yesterday evening in their next to last Wednesday fleet racing (Lasers go two more weeks). John Fishbeck took two first place finishes and a third in his return from go-cart crashing. Gil Chesbro had three second place finishes. Pat Dolan, Laserite turned Sunfish sailor for the evening, had a first, second and third to show for his efforts. Sandy Bryson and Paul Davis both had third place finishes in some solid sailing. Dennis Dudley walked away with the other first place finish. Results and standings are available from the Race Results page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org. |

Committee Boat Motor Fixed |
| The Lansing Sailing Club Committee Boat is back from its trip to the motor doctor and safely tied up at the dock. Part way through racing Sunday, the motor decided it didn't want to start. So, a quick trip to Wilson Marine for some repair work has it going again. Thanks to Pat Dolan for delivering the boat to Wiilson and to Doug Carlson for picking it up and returning it. |

Juniors Show Their Stuff |
| Anna Hamilton, a regular crew for Mike Moody, has put together a junior team that is now working out in preparation to begin doing some racing. Brad Kern and Cory Sweet are the other members of the team. All are students at Haslett High School. It is exciting to see how confident they are becoming in their sailing. Their spinnaker work looked avery good on the video that was shot at Tuesday's practice. Also, they were'nt bashful about getting out in some heavy air. Good going you junior sailors. |
