Dudley, Harvey and Harrison Take First Place Sunfish Finishes |
The Sunfish fleet was certainly competitive Wednesday evening with five of the six sailors finishing in the top three at least once in four races. Dennis Dudley showed the way in the first race with Neil Harrison coming in second and Dave Vietti third. In race two, Alanna Harvey took over and registered a first, followed by Dudley and Maribeth Fletcher. Race three found Neil Harrison crossing the finish line ahead of the others. Dave Vietti followed with a second and Dennis Dudley came in third. In the last race of the evening, Alanna Harvey took charge again for a first place finish. Neil Harrison was second and Dave Vietti third. The Sunfish have only two more Wednesday evenings of fleet racing in 2003. If this week's weather is an indication of what to expect...the rest of the Sunfish sailors don't want to miss some great wind, mild temps and good competition. Results and standings are available from the Race Results page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org. |

Carlson, Siegle and Moody Dominate Laser Fleet |
In some of the most competitive and exciting racing of the year, Doug Carlson, George Siegle and Mike Moody practically went bow to bow toward the finish line in each of the four races. Carlson ended up the winner in three races and Moody in one while Siegle scored a series of seconds. The last race of the evening was an example of how close it was. With 75 yards to the finish, Carlson crossed Siegle and tacked on top of him. However, George squirted out just enough for a clean tack. He then showed tremendous athleticism with a roll tack on to starboard. Doug immediately tacked into a strong leeward position and they sped to the finish. At the end, George shot the finish to come out on top of this mini-battle. Ann Siegle wasn't far behind the three leaders at the end of any of the three races she sailed - finishing fourth twice and fifth in the last race. Bob Miller sailed a very strong second race, nipping hard charging boats at the end. He then provided some humor for the evening (it probably wasn't funny to Bob) by snagging the gybe mark with his main sheet. |
