Don't Forget to Moonlight Friday

Members and guests are invited to bring a dessert to pass at 8 pm Friday for the last moonlight sail of 2003. at the Lansing Sailing Club will be next Friday, August 15th. The forecast calls for a beautiful evening with moonrise at 9:42 - just when we will be on the water in a combo of sail and pontoon boats. There will be plenty of room for everyone - so don't let the fact that you sail a single hander keep you from joining in.

"Oh m" Shows Sunday Racers How to Do Light Air

Ron Marshall, with faithful crew Jane Marshall and Bob Hill showed the rest of the LIghtning fleet how to sail in light air Sunday. While the other boats were drifting on the rumline headed to the first leeward mark in race one, "Oh m" took a circuitous route to find their own wind. From there on, they kept extending their lead to perform a "horizon job". The other three boats meanwhile, kept changing places as each would find a patch of breeze to use for short distances. Terry Kleiman found just enough breeze to slide by "Wind Dancer" at the finish for second.

Races two and three were a little more conventional with winds in the 8 to 10 range. The "Wind Dancer" team of Pat Dolan, Gil Chesbro and Bob Miller won both of those races with good starts at the pin that put them in a position to cross the fleet at the first shift and then consolidating with each subsequent shift.

Terry Kleiman, still looking for a boat name (the latest suggestions are "Kleiman High" and a series of x rated entries), had two second place finishes and a third for the day. On board with Terry were Lori Katz and Nena Wendzel. The "Moody's Booty" crew of Mike Moody, Pete Kuhn and Scott Watkins finished fourth, third and second.

Results and standings are available from the Race Results page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.
