Committee Boat Replacement Criteria |
| As Lansing Sailing Club members probably recall, replacement of our aging Committee Boat is on LSC's list of priorities. After a lot of study by Club Boat Director Doug Carlson and several Board Members, a draft of criteria for the replacement has been prepared along with a statement of why replacement is important. Members can find this draft in the "Members Only" section of the web site and are invited to offer thoughts and suggestions. Please send your comments to Doug. |

Wind Dancer Wins Two of Three |
Great sailing weather was in evidence yesterday and nine Lightning crews showed up to enjoy it. The "Wind Dancer" team of Pat Dolan, Bob Miller and Gil Chesbro won two of the three races and finished second in the other to show the way. Terry Kleiman had his best race day in 2003 with two second place finishes and a third. Lisa Winters and Gary Marx were crew on Terry's boat. By the way, there are efforts afoot to rename Lightning 14964. After a Dutch name failed to stick, Terry went for "Dragin' Tail" - and even had a dragon graphic layout ready. However, regular crew Lisa Winters and Lori Katz had suggested "Princess Two" - followed by a further suggestion by Terry of "Hen Pecked". More ideas anyone? Results and standings are available from the Race Results page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org. |

Practice Pays Off for LeFevre |
John LeFevre has been coming out regularly on Tuesday evenings to practice with crew Leif Alton and Dan Sutkovs - and it is beginning to show results. Yesterday, John had a fourth and a fifth in the first two races - and both times was mixing it up with the leaders before being edged out at the end of the last leg. In the third race, John and crew also sailed well - but they were over early at the start and having to go back put them in the hole. Good going John, Leif and Dan. |

Chesbro, Miller and Winters Win Crew Event |
Last Thursday's crew races showed how much our Lightning crews have improved - not just in their crewing skills, but as drivers. Gil Chesbro won the first race in the annual "Crew Takes the Helm" event. Gil noted "The competition was very close right from the beginning when every skipper had their boat going fast right at the starting line when the horn went off". In race two Bob Miller showed his stuff, driving "Wind Dancer" to a win. Bob had to overcome a crew member (Dolan) not realizing that the centerboard was stuck in the muck at the leeward mark as the boat came to a stop - and all the boats behind piled up with lots of good natured complaining about Bob's crew "getting it together". Lisa Winters walked away with race three. With Larry Koster and Terry Kleiman as crew, Lisa showed a lot of patience in the first two races as the spinnaker played hourglass. However, by race three, Lisa had her crew trained and in sync. Thanks to all who participated in this event. |
