Laser and Sunfish Clinic this Saturday |
Vice Commodore Mike Moody has everything ready for the Laser/Sunfish Seminar this coming Saturday, July 19th. It will start at 9 AM, break for lunch and continue in the afternoon. If you want to sail better, faster, smarter and safer - this is the clinic for you. Techniques and drills used at the Rick White Seminar held in Key Largo each spring will be employed. Laser and Sunfish sailors will use their our own boats and other members can take advantage of the three Club Sunfish and the Club Laser (Please sign up in advance to use one of these Club Boats at the Club House - first come-first served). Mike alerts us that there will be an important information meeting promptly at 9 AM to set up the format for the day - so he asks that we have our boats rigged and ready so we can start on time. The price is right - just bring yourself and a lunch (or funds to get a sandwich at a local eatery). Mike also suggests we bring dry clothes and plenty of water to drink. This is going to be a great and fun day. See you there. |

No Wind - But Things Got Done |
For the second Sunday in a row, there was seldom a breath of moving air on Lake Lansing. After postponing for a while, the Race Committee and sailors gave up on waiting for wind and cancelled racing. But, this did give some of the sailors an opportunity to jump into a couple of projects. The Racing Shed was cleaned, old marks were retired, outdated equipment was tossed, hooks were installed to hang the inflatable marks, handles were put on all the marks and a new device to shorten the anchor line was installed for each mark. Adjustments were made in the hoist for the Safety Boat so the cockpit will drain properly. The chain tying the dock to the hoist was repositioned so that the dock is closer to the hoist. A new mainsheet block was installed on a Club Sunfish where the old one was broken off. With no racing, there are no changes in the Lightning standings, but you can refresh your memory and find complete results through the Race Results page of the Club web site at www.lansingsailing.org. |

Forty Years Ago |
LSC member Larry Koster has kept in touch with Johanna de Kok, now of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Johanna and her Spouse Anton were charter member of the Lansing Sailing Club and of the Lake Lansing Lightning Fleet. Anton passed away about a year and a half ago. Johanna sent Larry this brief tidbit about the origins of the Lansing Sailing Club forty years ago. "Hi Larry: Thank you for forwarding the e-sheet of LSC. The club seems to be very active this summer. How wonderful! I had just been thinking that it was 40 years ago that we sailed our little pram around the lake. Anton didn't dare go to the organizational meeting of LSC because he didn't have a "real" boat. He carried with him images of Commodores with blue blazers and white caps! Needless to say that he got a different impression after spending an evening with Tom Braxton, Dr. Mack, Tim Goyt etc. at the bar. Great fun was had by everyone during that first summer. I'll look through my photographs and slides one of these days. The first race committee boat was a scream." |
