Moonlight Sail Tomorrow (Friday) |
Don't forget the Moonlight Sail tomorrow (Friday, July 11). Wind is predicted. The forecast also calls for a 30% chance of rain - but that means there is a 70% chance of good weather - and even if there is rain that it might not last long. Bring a dessert you can bring to pass at 8 PM. After dessert we plan to watch the sun set and enjoy a sail by full moon. |

Lots of Sailors Enjoy Wednesday Racing |
Lake Lansing was full of sails yesterday evening - and what a great time on the water. It didn't start out that way - with no wind to speak of at 5:30. Even at 6:00 there wasn't much moving. However, by 6:30 the breeze came in - and both Lasers and Sunfish completed four Olympic course races. Eight Sunfish sailors participated along with twelve Laser sailors. Gil Chesbro racked up three first place finishes and Sandy Bryson took the other first in the Sunfish Fleet. For the Lasers it was Doug Carlson with three firsts and Mike Moody with the one first. However, this doesn't begin to tell how competitive racing was. There were crowded mark roundings all evening and the Race Committee was challenged to sort out numerous close finishes. Cole Cahill, used a Laser from the MSU Sailing Center and joined us. Even with an old sail and lacking the new hardware, Cole acquitted himself well with fifth and sixth place finishes. Bill Wadland came racing with the group for the first time and showed improvement each race. The Scoring Guy is on vacation for a few days - but you will soon find complete results and standings through the Race Results page of the Club web site at www.lansingsailing.org. |

Laser and Sunfish Seminar at LSC Saturday July 19 |
An exciting event is being planned for Saturday, July 19th: a Laser/Sunfish Seminar. It will start at 9 AM, break for lunch and continue in the afternoon. Those who have morning or af ternoon conflicts and invited to attend whatever portion they can. It will be lots of fun, with plenty of opportunity to develop boat handling and other skills. There will be a camera going too - so sailors can get an even better look at ways to improve. Mike Moody is planning the event and tells us most of the action will be in our own boats on-the-water - although three Club Sunfish and a Laser are available to members who don't have their own Laser or Sunfish. Please sign up in advance to use one of these Club Boats at the Club House - first come-first served. The price is right - just bring yourself and a lunch (or funds to get a sandwich at a local eatery). |
