New July 4th Activities at LSC

There is a new July 4th program at LSC this year. We are going to join in the Lake Lansing Property Owners Association activities - and they are terrific fun. Mark your calendars and plan to join in the festivities.

First is a boat building activitiy for kids and their parents. Those participating need to sign up in advance by contacting Pat Dolan. No one knows in advance what materials will be used or what the instructions are. Materials and instructions are picked up at 7 AM on July 4th. Families have until the 1 PM race to build their boats. Several years ago, boats were styrofoam. Last year they were slats, wire twists and a 7 by 9 tarp. Everyone had a great time with this.

At 1 PM is the big "Boat Yard Race". This is where the kids race the boats that are built in the morning. The event is held on the sand bar off Hickory Island. Last year there were dozens of spectator boats and many spectators cheering their favorites. After the kids raced last year, there was an adult race - and that was fun too see how many adults could keep the boats afloat.

At 5 PM, there will be a picnic and boat decorating party at LSC. Franks and brats and paper and plastic and soft drinks are provided. Everyone should bring a dish to pass. We will decorate the LSC pontoon boat for the annual parade of boats that begins at 7:45 and circles the lake starting at the condos. Plan on coming out to join the fun, enjoy the picnic and participate or watch the parade.

Hat Trick for Wind Dancer Crew

The Wind Dancer crew was at the top of their game Sunday and scored three wins. Pat Dolan, Bob Miller and Gil Chesbro sailed Wind Dancer. Ron Marshall, sailing with spouse Jane and Bob Hill had a second and a third among their three finishes.

Blaine Severin sailed well all day with Tom Deits and Scott Watkins doing the crewing. His "Unidentified Flying Pigs" had two third place finishes and a fourth. Larry Koster, Tom Rasmussen and Bob Brook sailed "Shibumi" and had a second in race two. Mike Moody had two fourths and a second place finish sailing with Lisa Winters and Pete Kuhn.

It was good to see Jim, Maribeth and Eddie Fletcher get their "new" boat, "Bananas" going well. They sailed to windward very well and when they get the spinnaker sorted out are going to be very tough downwind.

Complete results and standings available soon through the Race Results page of the Club web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Derrick Fries Wins Sunfish Regatta

Derrick Fries, former MSU Sailing All-American and Sunfish champion, was the winner of last Saturday's Sunfish Regatta on Lake Lansing. Dan Norton of Devils Lake was second and local sailor Pat Dolan third. Check out the Club web site at www.lansingsailing.org for more details and the final standings.

Last Wednesday Cancelled

You may have wondered why there was no e-Sheet last Thursday. The reason was that we cancelled racing last Wednesday due to Thunder and Lightning. The racers will be back in the saddle again this Wednesday so look for a report in e-Sheet on Thursday.
